Re: Opencpn 4.8.0 crashes after zooming

I have seen this in Windows to but I cannot reproduce. You could try to rebuild the chart database Options->Charts->Scan Charts and Update Database plus Force Full Database Rebuild then click Apply

See if that helps or not.

Re: Opencpn 4.8.0 crashes after zooming

Robert,

Then I guess your CM93 chart files might be corrupted. If you have a backup copy you could try installing them in a new folder and change the chart directory setting in Options->Charts to the new folder.

Re: Opencpn 4.8.0 crashes after zooming

Thank you again,

but while I copied the CM93 charts from my backup I deleted all chart directories in the Ocpn directories. So even with the original world wide chart which comes with Ocpn I found the same symptom. Whenever I zoom out over a specific scale Ocpn just shuts down.

Every idea counts - thank you in advance

Re: Opencpn 4.8.0 crashes after zooming

Hello transmitterdan,

I just loaded my backup CM93 made a force to build the database - but same behavior like before. I don't know what to do else. I also tested with opengl on and off, but also no difference. Is there anything else what I can do before I setup the laptop as new?

Re: Opencpn 4.8.0 crashes after zooming

More ideas:

Is that in a specific region - and can be tracked down to specific charts?

You might try to work with sub sets, deleting the complete set first, then rebuilding the chart data base.
Installing a sub set, rebuilding data base....

And did you try with a virgin config file? Rename the .conf and re-start OpenCPN.

Re: Opencpn 4.8.0 crashes after zooming

This is linux, so...

Try running OCPN under "ddd".

1. $sudo apt-get install ddd
2. $ddd opencpn
3. "Run program"
4. Make it crash.
5. Examine "status->Backtrace". Post a screen shot. This will show us exactly where/why OCPN crashed.

Thanks
Dave

Re: Opencpn 4.8.0 crashes after zooming

Read more about using ddd in the manual.

https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...:help_fix_bugs

Scroll down to "Linux".

Re: Opencpn 4.8.0 crashes after zooming

Robert...

Thanks for the ddd trace.

So, it appears that it does not like one of your routes, tracks, or waypoints.

Which one?
Use the route manager dialog to disable viewing of all routes, tracks and waypoints. Then re-enable them one by one, and zoom out, until you get a crash. You found it. Then please describe the routepoint to us, verbally or in pix.

Thanks in advance for your help

Re: Opencpn 4.8.0 crashes after zooming

Hello Dave,

your point was right - thank you very much.

Now it is running again like a new one .

I identified one waypoint which I exported and deleted in Ocpn and then everything works fine. I imported the waypoint and I got the crash. I attached the evil to this post to check what was going wrong. If you find something I also would be interested what I did wrong.

Thank you again to all who helped.

Re: Opencpn 4.8.0 crashes after zooming

Robert...

I examine the exported waypoint.

I do not recognize the symbol:

<sym>logimg_U</sym>

Is this a private symbol? Is it available on your system?

Thanks
Dave

Re: Opencpn 4.8.0 crashes after zooming

Hello Dave,

I am not sure anymore, but if the symbol is the same as I attached here (waypoints.gpx), then it is available on my system, called "unknown heading". I attached a picture as well.

I remember that I installed the additional user icons from the Ocpn page some time ago.

Thank you

Re: Opencpn 4.8.0 crashes after zooming

Robert....

Are you actually able to view the offending waypoint at large scale, or does it crash if you try?
