Re: Opencpn 4.1.1108 Documentation

Wrote this to Will, our webmaster.

Quote:
Trying to get the User Manual ready for v4.2 and have been organizing the main outline.
We need a direct link from several of the Navigation menu items on the left side, directly to a particular URL.

For example: Currently we have "Plugins" in the first tier, towards the bottom. We are using a blank jump page with only a link to a "Plugins" page under "Toolbar Buttons > Plugins". This requires the user to click twice.

I would like to be able to insert the required link directly into the menu, so two clicks is not necessary. Is there a way for me to get into the underlying HTML for the Navigation Menu?

Of course we would not want to break the export wiki script.

Also I realize that we must have unique "Headings" for each page...otherwise the first page instance with the particular heading gets used for every page with that heading. This actually works favorably for us in the case of "Plugins" because the Jump page is ignored and the two clicks are not necessary from the Exported Wiki.

However when we are using the web page, we are required to use the "Jump Page" and two clicks.

Is there a way around this that is compatible with the wiki export?

PS: I am going to rename one of the "Plugins" Headings as "Plugins Link"

I hope you can give me access to create a "Plugins Link" direct dynamic link to
http://opencpn.org/ocpn/toolbar_plugins which has the content, that does not require two clicks by the user.

One other question about screenshots.
In Edit mode when images are adjusted with the corner tool, so that the aspect and size are changed, does the image get adjusted and compressed when it is exported?
I ask because we have a fairly sizeable export image folder at the moment.

Thanks very much for hosting OpenCPN and being our webmaster!!!

Rick Gleason

Re: Opencpn 4.1.1108 Documentation

Rick,

Getting started is acceptable I think.
Chart Downloader Tab looks OK.

What would you like for me to work on next?

I was thinking about adding text to Charts | Official OpenCPN Homepage

Re: Opencpn 4.1.1108 Documentation

ptulp, Thanks for copying Chart Downloader to the docs.
It appears you may have copied from the Export version of the current plugin?
Which is fine, but I think we are missing some icons that did not copy over.

Also in Edit there are little red flags, that you can right click and pick Edit to see what the internal link is. .... In most cases it says "Downloader" so I believe this is the internal link flag used by the PHP Export Script to create the single page version.

We don't want these links, so I started "Right Click" removing them and got most of the way through, and found that there were icon links embedded with no image.

I think I'll go to github and try to copy the whole thing from there, if it is not too much trouble. As it might be more complete.

It looks pretty good as it is however, (missing some icons).

Thanks.

Re: Opencpn 4.1.1108 Documentation

hello Gleason,
I just exchange mail with Jean Pierre. We agreed. I'll redo icons Grib plugin and I will pass it ..

Two questions:
- Icons should they be in a single file (such as icons in the icon bar O) or in separate files from each other ?
- I saw that there were many ways to save the svg file in inskape. So svg several sub-formats.
What sub-format should it use?

Re: Opencpn 4.1.1108 Documentation

ptulp and wdkester, Thank you!
I compared Pavel's wiki for the plugin
https://github.com/nohal/chartdldr_p...Basic-Concepts and those image icons seemed to be missing were for the images you imported, so I went ahead and cleaned up all the internal links with the red flags, etc. (get a blank line in front and put your cursor on the blank line and then hit delete.)

The text syles from wherever you guys got this document were brought over, (take a look at "Plain Text Screen" and seems to be bigger than our normal text.

We may have to strip the format and reformat if the text is not right in the single page export wiki..

alos added the two items pavel and Tdan have done since this was written,
auto update of chart db, sep. thread for downloads if avail.

Thanks very much!

Gille.. That's super.
I am a new user of SVG. I would guess that separate might be easier at first, but together might be more compact. Also I know that Opencpn has a single large image file that contains all the images for bouys etc. so this form would be very familiar with Jean Pierre in all likelihood. Also we know it can be done because Jon did it with O. It is possible to do them separately and then combine them and send the whole thing to Jean P.? Otherwise, you could ask him?

The format is fine in the export wiki. Fixed the link to C.Downloader from Toolbar_Plugins which uses a Jump page for now.

At first I expected the C.Downloader content to be under Toolbar_Plugins but this plugin acts like it is an inherent part of the program and it is more appropriate to have the content under "Charts". At this point it is part of the package.

Re: Opencpn 4.1.1108 Documentation

Rick,

I would like to the the order of the following changed to put GPS after Setting Options or TouchScreen Tablets; but I'm afraid to do it. This would order the list in the approx. order that a new user would proceed.
OpenCPN Installation
OpenCPN First Use
GPS Setup
Chart Installation
Setting Options
Touch Screen Tablets

Google Earth has changed(removed?) their program interface so that the GE plugin will only work with older vers of GE. Pal Higgins (GE2KAP) has a mod to GE that allows GE2KAQP to work. I'm afraid the GE PI has disappeared.

I would hope that the PI authors would update the manual.

I am thinking of populating Charts | Official OpenCPN Homepage with text if it's not just a place holder.

Dave

I can do something about the NV-Verlag plugin. I can from the French base I in the French tutorial. There is not much to translate. I think I will.

For BSB4 plugin, I have not the use of charts, so no experience. By cons, there are charts of Canada that uses (or used) this plugin. We should find a Canadian can make a page for this plugin.

Give me the details of the procedure to follow to intervene in the opencpn.org website.

Gilletarom.

Re: Opencpn 4.1.1108 Documentation

Yes David good change.
In the
VIEW EDIT OUTLINE REVIEW
With GPS settings page showing and selected, pick outline. Then select a higher value number to move the page down. Screen will blick. Do it again if you need to, eventually it will move down. You won't hurt anything.

You can also use Manage in the Left column down by your name. Hit MANAGE. Then pick Edit-review on the far right. You can drag the page where you want it. I just found this and moved Opengl to Advanced.
This way is a little more intuitive.

You're becoming a master.

Go ahead and do Charts.

Have you learned how to create or edit a link? Use the infinity icon and a URL window will pop up.

Re: Opencpn 4.1.1108 Documentation

Rick,
Finished - Charts | Official OpenCPN Homepage with 1 exception. There is an orphan at the bottom of the page that needs an entry in the left menu. Don't know how?

Also "--Charts" doesn't appear when trying to edit the outline. There is no item between --Right Click Menu and --Connections
ooops I added a page under charts that i want to delete (or rename) but I can't see it either.

Re: Opencpn 4.1.1108 Documentation

David,

Thank you. I will look at that.

I've been building a Manual for Editing the Wiki and have Uploaded screenshots now.

I think it needs more work, but it might be useful.
Edit the User Manual | Official OpenCPN Homepage

Also I updated and annotated the parts of the screen here.
OpenCPN Installation | Official OpenCPN Homepage

You can insert this image elsewhere where needed.
