The full build of the cache for all the NOAA charts takes hours even on my Core
i7 machine - it really is a lot of processing that has to be done...
I'm currently testing with the very latest NOAA set (published 11/26/2014). No hanging at all once the chart is already processed.
To give it a try, you can do a quick test:
- Move your boat somewhere
- Go to Toolbox - Display - OpenGL Options...
- Tick "Rebuild Texture Cache", OK
A dialog box will appear, showing the progress of the cache build and the distance from the boat the currently processed chart is. Let it work for a while to populate the textures for the nearest charts and then hit Skip.
The program should be fast around the location of the boat, no hanging anymore.
