OpenCPN 2.4.714 Won't Open with W7 Starter !

Bought a new Acer netbook with W7 starter installed, downloaded and installed OpenCPN 2.4.714, it installed without any issues at all and it ran and operated as normal, but when I closed it and reopened it the next day it would not open at all, I then tried uninstall and reinstall but the problem still exists, I then turned of Firewall and antivirus but still nothing.
ANY THOUGHTS PLEASE

How are you launching it?
- From the start menu (scrolling through to the icon);
- window key, type "opencpn", enter
- pinned to taskbar
- running c:\program files (x86)\opencpn\opencpn.exe

If you haven't tried the last one yet, do it now. If that works but the first three don't, it's a broken shortcut (easy to fix). If it doesn't, we'll troubleshoot some more...

Just installed 2.4.714 on a netbook with W7 starter. Starts and restarts from desktop, start menu, window key and program files.

Will also try tomorrow.

Does version 2.3.1 work? If it doesn't, try switching W7 to English or American English--some of the date formats don't work.

Thanks Marshmat, as you suggested I tried launching it from c:\program files (x86)\opencpn\opencpn.exe, with still no joy. please give me something else I can try, thanks

Can't reproduce here, but I'm running 64-bit Win7 Pro and have no access to 32-bit Starter.
There are some documented problems with OpenCPN crashing due to incorrect plugin DLLs (usually left over from an older OpenCPN version). This shouldn't be a problem with a clean install, but you could try wiping the contents of \Program Files\OpenCPN\plugins before uninstalling, rebooting, then reinstalling OpenCPN.

I deleted my plugins before the upgrade. No problems.

Locate your logfile - C:\ProgramData\opencpn\opencpn.log and if it exists, post it's end here.
Also have a look if there's something in Windows' event log - Start menu, type Event Viewer into the search field and hit Enter. There go to Windows Logs folder and look for something OpenCPN related. There's usually a lot of messages, so use the Find... button on the right and simply fill in opencpn into the search dialog. The relevant events should be in the Application log and of course have a timestamp corresponding with a moment when you tried to run opencpn.
