You beat me to it. I got to thinking about it, so I came back and opened up Nobeltec and found I was wrong on that, too!!!

There is the "Center" function that just moves the chart to be centered over an object.
  • On Boat
  • On Active Mark
  • On Man Overboard

Then, under Autoscroll there is
  • Follow Boat
  • Follow Predictor
  • Look Ahead

OK, so it's Industry Standard because OpenCPN uses it. So, there.

Oh, and I'm on version 10, so yours may not have all of those... I don't remember back that far. Heck I didn't even remember what I have now!

EDIT: I almost never say "I know for a fact". This'll teach me...

Dave...

Thanks again for your relentless programing efforts, very much appreciated by us not so technically oriented. Make it powerful but keep it simple and intuitive.

Auto follow is also very useful when your GPS is not on,enabling you to move rapidly to you pre-selected location, using the Move boat here option

I look forward to testing the new version...

New Beta results

I don't have much time. Gotta go to work.

Status bar stays gray, disappears when turned off, appears when turned on, when window is small, bold type makes it readable for me. FIXED

Chart bar update changes on scroll to cursor. Works just like I thought it would. Slight disadvantage is if I am zoomed way out and can't hit the chart exactly (like on inland rivers), it flips to cm93s. But, when you said you were fixing it, I fully expected it to work that way. FIXED

Cursor jump. Guess what. That seems to be fixed as well. Like I said, not much time, but I tried with both chart types several times on several charts. It don't do it any more. FIXED

Cool. I'll bang on it some more this evening.

Dave...

New version seems to be very well behaved from what I have experienced so far. Congratulations!!

1.Ship name on cursor pass over i GREAT,but would it be possible to program it so the MMSI number is shown when the name is not available.

2. It is still not possible to copy any ship data in the AIS Queery box for later use.
May want to do a ship data lookup from the MMSI number from external facility.
Or simply copy all of the ship info for transmission by email to interested parties.

Dave...

Could I make a suggestion regarding the cursor pass over ship/MMSI name display?
My experience is that a solid black against a transparent background works best.
Also suggest reducing the size of the AIS Queery box like this: (Left mouse click)

See examples of both cases here:

I am hugely enjoying the masure tool; however, think the it would help if this could be called by keyboard shortcut and menu button rather than or in addition to right-click.

Thanks for your attention.

;-) and I am a mouse freak so Dave might implement both.

BTW mouse, why does it need to play catch the mouse?
The curser is already where I want to measure, I cklick right mouse, pops up the window, I klick "measure", popup closes and the cursor is, where the "measure" was, but not where I want to measure from at the chart. Certainly not a bug, but the less handling the better.

if it would not be "Ownship" but e.g. "me", then all, information will fit into the base line, the contrast dark grey/black is very poor and the bold letters hard to read.

AIS is lost since last update - or maybe no ship passed by? I am using "live" AIS, very own receiver. But such a coincidence?!

And don't worry about dumb questions. It's only dumb when you bull-headedly try something without asking and crash your machine.

EDIT: That computer sounds like exactly what I want. When I get ready to cruise, I'll build something.

Dan,

Is this always the location of the latest build? Is a build like a new version? Sorry for more dumb non-programmer questions.

Regards,
Chris

I second the measurement tool. I use it a lot in offshore navigation to double check time to go and to find a "plan B" if something goes unexpectedly wrong, such as weather change, or equipment failure. I'm happy with the right click. It is waaaay quicker and easier than the chart plotter.

Dave..

Found a BIG problem.. Having used the measure tool and switched off the tool, the whole thing crashed. And I mean crashed because it refuses to restart for good.
I had that happen to me with the last version when I wanted to move MY ship back to another location. Same thing, crashed and would not let me start again.

Tried re instating the latest build but NO,had to un-install the lot, install the original and then the latest build. Something irreplaceable gets drastically damaged and requires a completely new installation.

Dave & sinbad7

I can confirm sinbad7's problem, but it appears slightly different on Linux.
I can use the measure tool OK, measuring multiple legs, for instance, and then switch it of. But... starting to measure, and then without actually measuring, right click( it makes no difference if I move the cursor[pencil?] around) and then select "measure off" ,crashes the program. No problem to restart however, but then Lin and Win are different.
The screen dump below catches the problem.

Sinbad,

I don't have the problem at all. Switched on and off several times. I've only loaded 1.3.2 and the last two builds so maybe that has something to do with it.

Regards,
Chris

Just to be a little more thorough, I ran it on my boat nav computer also. No problem. Both running Build 830. XP pro with up to date patches. Laptop is 4 yr old HP, boat computer is Intel Atom 330 duo core.

Chris
