Dave,

After I install it the help file still shows build 830. Is it in a different location?

That's where I went. I must have been too early. Now it downloaded and installed as 901. Wish I could help more but I'm only a user. Thanks so much for everything you and your team do here. I tried to donate since I hate being more of a taker than giver but it says you don't accept them. So I'll try to test in "real world" as I sail up the east coast and then back to the Bahamas.

Regards,
Chris

Dave,

Build 901 still has the following bugs:

1) Wheel zoom jumps when changing scale and there are multiple "clicks" of the wheel.

2) From the log file - 19:13:31: Error: Can not enumerate files in directory 'C:\CM93\03300660/G' (error 3: the system cannot find the path specified.) There is no "G" sub-directory in 'C:\CM93\03300660'.

3) Font selection for the status bar no longer works.

Request an option to keep only the current session in the log file. This well be helpful for systems with limited storage.

Paul

Viking Sailor....

Something funny about my website host. It occasionally takes some time for an uploaded file to be available for download. Meanwhile, the earlier version is still there. Sigh.....

1. Don't understand "Wheel zoom jumps when changing scale and there are multiple "clicks" of the wheel." I'm being dense.....

2. "Error: Can not enumerate files..." This is no error, silly wxWidgets debug message.

3. Never was a font selection option for the status bar. Clarify, please....

FYI logfile is capped at 1 MB.

Thanks for the quick feedback
Dave

901: Very usable for me

AIS plus mouse movement crash: fixed

Status bar, looks fine here

Heading, nope: My system does transmit a HDM message, but the direction of own ship at anchor is all over (using COG)

Little annoyance:
Measurement tool: when doing a right click after measuring, to turn of "Measure" cursor jumps to a top left locatation

Dave,

When I specify /MTd the linker gets:

1>MSVCRTD.lib(MSVCR90D.dll) : error LNK2005: _longjmp already defined in LIBCMTD.lib(longjmp.obj)

LeaseOnLife...

Is there any way you could send me (or post) a sample capture of your NMEA data stream for analysis?

Dave

Dave,

I've got a wireless mouse that worked fine with build 830. In 901 the wheel zoom didn't function first time I loaded it. But after I restarted the program it worked. Restarted several times and it always works now.

Key bindings

Dave,

For the laptop user, having a smaller keyboard: On my EN-US layout, to hit the "+" for zooming in I need to press the shift key too. Without the shift key, it would type a "=". If "=" isn't used, can I request to use "=" equivalent to "+" ?

This might lead into a broader discussion of user-config key bindings: Imagine using a wireless presentation-remote to be able to work with opencpn. I would like to be able to assign a function to each button of the remote.

Heading data

Dave

My handle here is LeaseOnLife, check for Dirk in your emails (same person), You have the NMEA log already, think Delaware-Bay/Henlopen

I post it here too:

A typical HDM sentence from my B&G autopilot looks like this
$IIHDM,064,M*3E

this would be a heading of 64 degrees magnetic. My system does not send HDG,

For the calculation from magnetic to true, one could use the RMC sentence, a lookup table in some (most) GPS to calculate the magnetic variation.

On my system the RMC sentence at looks like this
$GPRMC,000002,A,4348.3065,N,06951.1751,W,0.3,319.5 ,300809,17,W*51

That would be a 17 degrees W magnetic variation. A westerly variation would need to be subtracted, the true heading was 64 - 17 = 47 degrees.

Does this help ?

Measuring tool works a lot better. As you move off screen the screen scrolls up, previously I couldn't get it to do that

Charts open as I move up the coast a lot better. Still seems to just pick the next chart so it switches back and forth between scales. Maybe it should attempt to open the scale closest to the original point. Would make moving around without full quilting a lot easier.

Chris

Dave..

CONGRATULATIONS!! Great job as usual.. I for one am very grateful for the advances made. No doubt there will be issues to be sorted out, especially considering the many different platforms. Now I look forward to a few days of testing the various features.

As a tip for the AISRollover font I would recommend using Rockwell Extra Bold font size 10.

WELL DONE!!

Own ship design contest

Here is how a competetive program does it, and I like it!

When zoomed out, the own ship must never be smaller than a certain size, the actual position is indicated with the dot in the ship

When zoomed in far enough that size of the vessel plays a role, it looks like this:

It shows the vessel in real length (44ft) and it shows where the GPS sensor is mounted (rear, port quarter). One defines the dimensions of the ship and the location of the GPS antenna from the center of the ship.

LeaseOnLife...

Dirk: Do you know how often your system transmits HDM message? Opencpn is set to revert to COG if HDx is not received at least every 6 seconds.....

Try this: disable GPS RMC message. Then see if the heading is fixed, or seems to follow HDM.

FYI I use variation from RMC message....

Thanks
Dave
