Wow, looks good.

For those of you on Windoze, you'll need to de-select your charts and do a re-discover. The chart outlines show up for all charts, but the lower bar showed only cm93. After a rediscover it all works fine, so far, anyway.

The new build IS much faster. Especially evident in the ENC builds. They build in a fraction of the time. 5-10 seconds on my P4 machine (used to be a minute or more).

Scrolling, it keeps to ENCs unless I scroll off the area. Very nice.

The new icons look great.

I'll be playing with it some this weekend.

I'd like the cm93 chart outlines to show up at a higher zoom level. No biggie.

US4FL31M.000 is a detail harbor chart, but looks like OpenCPN thinks the scale is different. Won't let me zoom in on it.

EDIT: US5FL82M.000 is a similar chart to the above, but works fine. Both are detail charts surrounded by another chart with a hole in it.

Dave..
v 822 seems to be working fine now but I think you have an error in the UTC time display in the queery box. I think you are one hour too far ahead. i.e. MY time here in Brazil is now 14:37 local time but the AIS targets shows 17:37 UTC. We have a time difference of +2 hrs to UTC in East Brazil.

Dave

It looks like you have fixed the problem around long 180.
Marks on different side of the dateline do show at the same time.

One thing though. Longitude for the cursor in the status bar do no show "E" or "W" any more. Latitude is alright.

30. Very good start, already useful. A few observations. In Z scale I see what seems to be a general lat/long grid.
Continuing around the dateline, checking N & South Minerva reefs at about 23 55 S 179 06 W. Testing with CM93/2 2009 , were the B scale chart from earlier editions is non existing.
Using A scale charts in x12 zoom the D scale charts for the N & S Minervas show up (this was the kind of thing I was looking for).
However in x6 or x24 zoom they don't show.

Generally the B or C scale chart areas seems to show up on the A scale charts.

Oops! I just tested the different scale CM93 charts around Rockall,
~ 57N x 14W and ran into another segfault. I repeated it a few times by just moving around and scaling in and out in this area. Screen dump below.

The new icons looks great, and an impressive list of new features.
I'm sure 1.4 will attract a lot of new users.

Thank you very much Manimaul for the "How to" with the CVS source. It is working fine and doesn't freeze . I had no time to discover all, but for instant all is OK.

Thanks to Dave for this cruising navigator that I just discover and which seems easy to use. It is just what I was looking for.

I confirm because I try to install them again :

* .deb is freezing
* .tar.gz2 is freezing
* the CVS source works fine

Win 2000 problem

Hi Dave,

This is the program I have been dreaming about! Wonderful. Thanks.

There is a bug when installing the latest beta (822) on Win 2K, in that it is missing the gdiplus.dll (see GDI+) I hope it's an easy fix, I can hardly wait to play with the new version.

svg source

Whoever has cvs commit priviledges,

Would it be possible to include the svg source files in the source code? I've zipped them up here in the proper directory structure along with xpm conversion scripts to make it easy to develop more or make changes. Simply edit the svg and run the included xpm conversion scripts.

*Note: new script fixes "const char" problem with sed

Opencpn Icons.zip

Thanks,

Will

I don't know if I dare post this!
Maybe we will loose you forever to the " Flat Earth Society".

The long 180 problem have moved 180 degrees and shows up at the Greenwich Meridian together with some ugly distortions of some chart outlines.
On the upper picture I have clicked west of the meridian, on the lower picture east of the meridian.
Notice the marks I've put in Sahara.

Ah, the joys of programming when the "wouldn't it be nice if it did ___" hit the fan.

Dave, the charts appear to be working great. No worries - that's programming. Thanks!

Manimaul..

Great icons... Could you insert a 'cross hair' or a dot in the centre of the MOB icon for exact position detection by the mouse pointer?

cagney....

three issues:
1. Flat earth... Have you heard of the game called "Whack-A-Mole"? Look it up...

2. CM93 chart outlines: This needs some discussion.
Gleaning chart (cell) outlines requires reading and decoding the cell completely, since we don't know a priori how many M_COVR objects are present. These are the objects which describe the cell coverage.
So, there is a performance issue. The question is, "How far down into the cell stack should we proceed in order to find useful smaller scale cell outlines"

Example: At your favorite location Minerva Reef, the cell outline we want to see is a D-cell. If we are looking at an A-cell, we must traverse the stack all the way to D in order to see the required outline. OK. no problem, since there is only one covering B cell, and no C cell at all at this location. Fast enough.

However, if we apply this logic worldwide, then the performance becomes unacceptable, since we will be reading B, C, and D cells whenever we look at A cells. I tried an experimental version. Zooming out at A scale shows lots of outlines, but is unusably slow.

We need to limit the stack drill-down in some sensible, useful way. Perhaps as some function of current display scale? For instance, drill down far enough to display outlines at a scale of 25% of current effective display scale?

I don't know the answer, and I solicit comments.

3. segfault at Rockall.
Seems to be a bug in GDK system code. I saw it once, but was unable to reproduce. Looking into it.

Dave,

It seems to have a problem with inserting a waypoint in a route. For example when I insert a waypoint between waypoint 2 and waypoint 3, the emplacement is good, but the waypoint is not inserted and attached on the segment between 2 and 3 and in fact the new waypoint becomes the first waypoint of the route.
