The wheel zoom to cursor seems to use the last cursor position to zoom in and out so long as the cursor does not move. Any movement of the cursor causes the zoom center to reset to the new cursor position. This feature causes unpredictability with the wheel zoom if the mouse cannot be held perfectly still.

For Rhoel_Asia....

Cannot reproduce crash on Create-Route abort. Is this new on 1.3.3Beta?
Please try this on Vista, Version 1.3.2, if you have the time.
Others, too, please.

Thanks
Dave

My thought is since people differ on how the scroll wheel and zoom should work, make it configurable. Reverse scroll wheel, zoom in to cursor, zoom out to cursor, position cursor at center after zoom (or leave it where it was).

Me, I like zoom to cursor (both in and out) and don't re-position cursor.

Folks...

New Beta 1.3.3 Build 716

1. Improve AIS Target Management
2. Support Windows COM Ports above COM9
3. Improve GPS and AIS shared port selection logic.
4. Correct Route Plan Speed limit.
5. Correct handling of named waypoint in route delete logic.
6. Correct radar range ring display.
7. Implement Route Export... Right click to Export, GPX-IN to import.
8. Corrected colour schemes on some BSB charts, allowing default RGB colours if present
9. Changed Mouse Wheel Zoom logic. Now zooms centered at cursor point.
10. Correct Route Properties to display times in Days/Hours/Minutes.
11. Highlight selected waypoint in Route Properties dialog.
----------Publish Beta 1.3.3 Build 715---------

12. Improve AIS CPA Alert graphics
13. Make Wheel-Zoom-to-cursor option configurable in Toolbox->Etc
14. Correct AIS Class B decoding.
----------Publish Beta 1.3.3 Build 716---------

CVS updated.

Comments:
1. Wheel zoom to cursor is now configurable in Toolbox->Etc. It should cause the cursor to jump to mid-screen, so that successive zoom-ins don't walk off the target. This works for Linux, but I can't seem to get it to work for XP under VirtualBox. Is this a VirtualBox bug? Please test.

2. Yet another debugging pass at the 8000 target AIS data stream.....

Thanks
Dave

Impressive productivity Dave!

I didn't like the resetting of the cursor position either - this is not optional? Perhaps one should agree on a default of sorts.

I had tested the original bug three times before reporting it, figuring out exactly how it brought the program down. Definitely happened in a repeatable way.

As requested, I re-installed 1.3.2 and discovered no problem. No surprise, it hadn't happened when loaded before. I then loaded 1.3.3 v716 and guess what, no crash! Don't you just love computers. Was it the reload or the reboot which cleared the glitch?. No idea.

For the time being, we can scrub this from the bug list. I'll keep an eye on it but for now it looks like a machine specific one-off event. Sorry for the false alarm.

Good morning Dave..
Everything seems more stable with my Vista based OpenCPN today.
My zoom wheel works.. and the Query boxes show correct info.

My only concern is the very large number of yellow targets without ship names.
The green, full info ship icons seems concentrated in certain places,Scandinavia,
the North coast of Holland,Greece, the St.Lawrence river and Vancouver.
As much as 80% I guess is showing incomplete info (yellow)

Viewing with other nav. progs and the same IP data feed,80-90% are showing
full and correct info.

OpenCPN seems to be unable to receive the vessels second message when receiving
massive data. Surely there must be a way to solve this problem?

And thanks for a truly great navigations program, I am sure you have spent many a night "burning the midnight oil". Much appreciated..

Pardon my ignorance but why does anyone need to know so much AIS information about vessels way outside their local range. To me, knowing only about ships which are within radar range and pose a collision threat are of interest. The fact OCPN is not tracking secondary up-dates from Scandinavia, Greece or wherever seems trivial if you are navigating UK, USA or Timbuktu.

No flame intended and maybe I am missing something here with AIS but is this yellow boat Dover cluster really important enough for the harsh "more attention needed" type criticism of this great free project? It seems unreasonable - OpenCPN already does much more than my old WinNexus program (for which I paid big bucks, had major issues like incorrect tidal information) and for which I cannot get updates for: It's the reason I am so keen on OpenCPN. Whilst it is still in its infancy, the program is already a powerhouse and superior to the SeaClear option.

Credit is due to Dave for his free time, huge effort and considerable talent.

Dave,

I am confused! I unstalled OpenCPN and reran 1.3.2 setup. Version 1.3.2 tested as before. Downloaded and ran new beta setup from 07/17. Info tab yealds version equals 1.3.1 and there is no selection for wheel scroll in etc. Does the 716 beta require the 715 beta to be loaded first?

Rhoel.. I couldn't agree more with you... Dave is doing a great job with an excellent piece of software. My remarks, like others in this forum is to help improve the software, they are not meant as criticism. Whether correct display of AIS messages are more important than how to implement the cursor scroll wheel will have to be up to each individual using the software. I can see why the display of ship name, ship size etc. are of little importance in YOUR cruising waters but they matters a lot on a foggy night cruising the English channel.

The idea of OpenCPN is surely to make it useful for everybody, also the now retired armchair sailors, families of crew sailing the seven seas and others.

AIS can also be used over the internet for those lucky enough to have access to Wi-Fi as a means to look ahead checking traffic outside of your boat's normal range.

All hail to David for his great efforts but I hope you all will come forward with your useful suggestions for improvement, that's what 'open' software is all about.

Dave..

I think you have perhaps pointed the download to an old version 1.3.1 ?
Checking the Sourceforge link I could only find v. 1.3.2

Please point to the right link for v. 1.3.3 -716
