Open CPN gives crash dump on pc

I'm using OpenCPN for a couple of months on a Windows7Home laptop with an AIS tranceiver. Every few hours there is a crash dump and the entire computer will shut off. This doesn't happen when I use an usb gps-mouse instead of the AIS signal. Anyone any idea what could cause this problem?

Re: Open CPN gives crash dump on pc

Most likely cause are broken com port drivers for your hardware - how do you connect the AIS? USB to serial cable? Which chip it uses? Try to look for the latest version of the driver you can get. OpenCPN itself as an unprivileged application has very little (MS says no) chance to take the whole system down.
