open CPN

I am really hoping someone may be able to help me. I have recently replaced my ships laptop and operating system with Windows 7 (previously Windows XP and everything was fine) and installed the new version, openCPN 3.0.2, of openCPN and downloaded my charts from the disc. The charts were initially installed under "my documents" however are now in "downloads". I am unable to get the openCPN program to read/acknowledge my charts.
My charts are installed in my downloads and labeled "openCPN charts"
when opening my nav program I am getting a black background with blue country outlines and a tool bar.
If I open "charts" on the tool bar, under "Available Chart Directories" I am seeing openCPN charts and the relevant charts listed ie. 00300060 through 04501020.
In the "Add Section"
the above charts are correctly identified as "c:\users\Phil\Downloads\openCPN charts.
I have a BU-353 GPS unit installed which is fully operational (as previously)

Can anybody help me identify what I am doing wrong.
Thank you for your help.

Re: open CPN

Check that you have added the directory where the charts are, and not the charts themselves in the Toolbox-> Chart tab.

Still having problem? Then we need to have a look at your logfile.
There are instructions how to find it here-> FAQ | Official OpenCPN Homepage. To upload the file, first rename opencpn.log by adding a ".doc" to the full name.

Re: open CPN

I really appreciate the help offered as I am completely lost and confused here now.
In my tool box - charts tab it states "openCPN charts" and then under neath lists numerically all the relevant charts, does this sound correct??
My logfile location:c:\ProgramData\opencpn.log is shown under the "about" section in the location of Important Files,Log and config files.

Re: open CPN

The tool/chart window should look like this, with the /chart directory containing charts or subdirectories with charts in them.

We need to see the content of the log file, you have to locate the log file, rename it according to Cagney's post above and attach it to your post using the "paperclip" icon in the post dialogue in this forum.

Good luck
