OCPN not seeing my com port

I hate to raise another COM issue, but I had to rebuild my xp netbook recently and now OCPN 3.2 does not recognize the connected serial-usb converter. It registers as a com port to xp, but is not showing up in the OCPN connection list.

I have apparently failed to include something in the new xp build, but it beats me what?

The converter is recognized by OCPN in my win8 laptop and xp desktop systems.

Any help much appreciated.

Reading the friendly manual reveals an advice
Quote:
If the port you are looking for does not appear in the selection, write the correct port yourself in this field.

Re: OCPN not seeing my com port

thanks Cagney (I think)....I did in fact try to do that. Clicking the 'add' button does nothing on the troubled system. On the working system it brings up a box to be filled in that the xp system does not??? Is there an alternative way to add the port?

And, on the other working systems, there is no need to add anything....the port is there.

Can you show a screen picture of what happens when you press the add button?
The only other similar case I can recall happened when the dialog was to small on screen. Have you tried to click/drag one of the lower corners to expand the dialog?

Re: OCPN not seeing my com port

Well, am I a little red-faced. The "connection" window on the little netbook is a small window not large enough to accomodate the 'add-on' 'box'. On the other machines the connection window opens with room in the window for the add-on 'box' to very obviously appear.

When I stretched the netbook window...voila! I should have noticed the window sizing slider on the side.

Once I added the com port, it appears automatically on later loads.

Thanks again for the prodding.
