Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Håkan,
I have now fixed 1 and a few other issues I have found. These are in patch 640.

2) If the heading information availalble to the plugin in 'nan' then the plugin just uses the raw angle. This may be a little disconcerting if you keep on loosing heading information. Unlike a radar the plugin is not oriented to the boat by physical means, it has to work out the angles based on COG or HDT (I could use HDM, but that could vary quite quickly in certain parts of the world). If these are not stable neither will the EBL be. In my testing I only have COG as I am shore based at the moment and my NMEA file of Puget Sound does not include this information.

This is a request, if anyone has an NMEA file that contains GPS, HDM and AIS information for a region could you let me have a copy for testing?

3) What do I do when HDT & COG are not available? Also, how do I let the user know that these are not available? I could popup a message, but that then brings other issues. I 'could' do smoothing of the input rather like the watchdog plugin does for speed, but again, complexity.

4) The Options/Plugins/ocpn_draw_pi/EBL tab allows you to select which default heading information to use.

I would rather not start switching to other data sources if the information is not available, this may be more confusing for the user. I could log some error messages in the log if this happens. Do you want that?

Pulled the new sv.po file into OD.

1) -Bug??:
The EBL is now rotating even if DefaultEBLRotateWithBoat=0

2) -Bug
If ID_EBL_MAINTAIN_WITH_HEADING=1 and no heading is available the EBL angle a mishmash. The angle in my test changed from ~+30 to -30

3) -Opinion:
If DefaultEBLRotateWithBoat=1 && ID_EBL_MAINTAIN_WITH_HEADING=1 and no heading is available please switch to follow COG instead.

4) -Opinion:
Give priority to COG, when "Rotate with boat" is checked for the first time. E.g. if no active user option between COG/HDT let COG be default.

Build error due to failure in sv.mo
The sv.mo in today's fetch is missing a "new line". I'm sorry for that but the one in Crowdin is tested correct and I think that's the same you've in issue #198.

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Håkan,
I am not sure there is much I can do about this. If you get near enough you should be able to get the right click menu, once you have this and have selected the 'Move...' you just need to push the left mouse button and hold it, and the point will move to where you mouse is, you then drag it around until its where you want it and let go of the left button.

I cannot stop the update of the screen because your mouse is near an OD object. The OD objects move when the screen gets refreshed, which is about 1/sec unless some object asks for it to be done before that time is up. If the moving points become a problem then I may have to do something in the Path Properties panel to let you right click there to get the right click menu for the point. But I would rather wait and see on that.

Regards
Jon

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Hi,
Just a note for those interested.

The original EBL was based on two points, the start and end, which allowed easy drawing of static bearing lines and the repositioning of these. The new EBL is based on the start point, the angle from true north and the length of the line. The end point of the line is calculated and is not fixed. This is all under the covers, but it is a change in philosophy for the creation of a path. This now allows the bearing line to rotate with the boat and to stay at a fixed angle from the direction of travel, i.e. True Heading or CoG. If the True Heading proves unreliable it can be easily changed to Magnetic Heading.

The EBL uses the current position fix information supplied by OCPN, so if Heading or CoG is not available it is not available to any other part of the system. The heading is taken from the HDG /HDM nmea sentences and variation from the RMC (if supplied) or the WMM (or user set variation). I could cache the HDG/CoG and smooth it over time like in the Watchdog plugin does for speed, but you would then get a lag in the display of the EBL.

Hello Jongough,

As I do not know compile the plugin or OpenCPN, I can not test your new products. If you consider that the modifications are sufficiently mature to be tested by the public, put a version compile online.

Obviously, as you will take the risk of being bored by users like me ....

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Jon
Thanks, I'm now on patch 641:

- sv.po: Now fine, thanks

- EBL length is now stable

Here's a link to my VDR file with COG, HDM, AIS targets etc. (You've to use WMM to get HDT)
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/.../Hakefjord.txt

Issue:
- If "Rotate with boat" is active and you place a new EBL, the end point is moved after creation to pick position + HDT/COG. So when the mouse button is released the EBL line rotates.
One example:
Run VDR "hakefjord.txt". Have "Rotate with boat" activated. Create a new EBL at around +30 degr. from the boats heading and you'll see what I'm trying to explain.

Then also try to move the end point.

So I test immediately to create an "EBL" with "Rotate with boat" ON

It is possible to create this kind of EBL.

But, then I use VDR and I run an old VDR file. It starts well then I had two locking type:
- First try: Entire screen shot like I was in COG UP mode. (But I Was on North UP mode)
Second try: Before rotating screen, crash.
-------------------------------

I correct and accurate:
I was set up in North before starting my test.
First test: After some playing time VDR file, during which everything seemed OK, the screen suddenly turned and the boat is positioned as if the setting was COG UP. Then everything is blocked.
Second test, Crash ..

Third test:
I had the curiosity to look in the "Options / Display" and I was surprised to see that the Option "COG UP" was selected automatically ...
I again returned to North UP
I redid the test and this time there was no problem.

Strange.

------------------
Fourth test:
Even VDR file, no problem.
And I created two EBL:
- A which rotates with the vessel located 50 ° port. Same starboard.
- A a fixed direction, but hanging on the boat, which I use to materialize the wind direction.

Fantastic. It is clear when it is too close to the wind ...

Just a small request. The arrow materializes the wind, a peak in the wrong direction. One would have to reverse the direction of the arrow. It would be perfect to materialize wind direction!

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

hello Jongough,

Sorry, a little bug.

Create a EBL line. Try to change the length. So you use "Del" and so everything disappears.
Then try typing again a distance. You can then start typing a length. For example, you try to type 1.5 Nm. Impossible. You can just type the "1". Unable to enter the ". If you clic "ok" then you have 1.00.

I can't change the length - via the properties window - of an existing EBL at all (I'm not using the latest version of Draw).

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Jongough,

Just a little detail :

Creating a DR. OK
Opening property this DR. OK
Deleting a segment (eg 3 to 4). OK
Therefore the end of the segment is disconnected from the road. We can move without problem. See screenshot. OK

This change of status waypoint: WP ---> "Boundary Point". OK
It now appears in the point OD manager. OK
In the OD point manager, you can open the properties of the item. OK

BUT, if we put the mouse over it, no context menu similar to that of the "boundary points". And not move it again or destroyed by this method.

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Port-Starboard-Layline-32deg-2nm
Works nicely using COG and Hakan's Hakefjord file.
and ocpn_draw_#641 with the OpenCPN version provided by Jon as download.

Will Ocpn_draw_#641 work with v4.2?
or is there a change in the opencpn.lib?
Was able to change the length without trouble. So I don't know what the problem is.

This is pretty awesome!! Pretty slick. Thank you guys! Gille and Jon!

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

By the way, I understand the American Revolutionaries changed the buoy colors on the Brits and the rest of the world has the buoy colors switched. We are used to red right returning.

How does this work in real life?
