Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Hi,
I am currently using 4.1.818 as it contains many fixes and works better. I know the plugin works with 718, but older versions are a 'long' time ago (over 500 commits to the mainline since 602). As the plugin is not yet released I can only support it when using the most current version of the mainline. If it works on other versions of OCPN great, if not please upgrade to a newer version of OCPN.

As to 602 not working, there was a change to the toolbar api around then and the old version and the new version are NOT compatible. I changed the plugin to use the newer API and did not leave the old code (it is a beta of OCPN and at the time an alpha of ocpn_draw_pi). Sorry if this is causing issues, but I am trying to stabilise the plugin and get it working consistently, rather than trying to maintain compatibility with different versions of the beta OCPN.

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Rick,
The properties should be the same as it uses the same code, just a slightly different path to navigate to it. Could you give an example of this behavior, as when I use the two different paths I get the same information displayed?

There is a third way to get to the properties, double click the object. If you double click a boundary point in a boundary you will get the boundary not the point itself. I am not sure if this is an issue or is a more natural way for it to work. What do you think?

The two ways are using Drawing Manager Icon and the other is right click on an object and pick properties.

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Rick,
Thanks for that. I will contribute to it as and when I have time and access (internet is rather patchy on the boat where we are).

Not an issue. Just wanted to be sure.

Re: Properties - I will double check the three methods with each object type and report any questions I have.

Re: Documentation. I have to do much more and I have started screenshots. Just need to get the time to get this up and together.

Have some great sailing! Thanks.

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Tried creating a boundary, move boat to here inside the boundary, copy GUID in properties to WatchDog Edit > Boundary GUID. Says "Boundary Time Invalid" and moving the boat out of the boundary does not set an alarm off.

Perhaps I am doing something wrong.

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

It must have been getting late the other night. There are no dual properties dialog for EBL and Boundaries or Text Points. The 3 ways of accessing Properties via:
1. double click on the object from within the Drawing Manager
2. pick properties from the the Drawing Manager
3.right click on the object and pick properties.
All work and refer to the same database.
I was incorrect earlier.

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Rick,
You should also be able to double click the object on the main OCPN screen, i.e. the boundary line or text point, and this should also bring up the properties. Maybe I have given too many options for getting to the same information, what do you think?

I have now used the EBL, disconnected from my boat to find where a ship was actually aiming based on an AIS prediction. It helped work out when to change direction and in which direction to change it. It was easy, for me anyway, to do and only required a couple of mouse clicks.

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Sorry I missed that one. All are very good. Not too many. I lost some paragraphs written for the docs today because I did not save before uploading screenshots. Will recreate tomorrow.

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

The documentation "Preliminary Outline" has a ways to go, and it needs whittling, simplification, more illustration and some verification. However hopefully it is now becoming useful.

I invite others to add and correct.

Re: Ocpn-Draw and Boundary

Hi,
I have just put up patch 511 which is built for OCPN 4.1.925 (915 may work as well). Please give it a go and see if it now works as expected. I have loaded a deb file into the release directory on github, but I cannot do the windows build at the moment, Rick??
