Re: ocpn does not go out of night mode

are you using both dimmers? F5 and F6?
Keep tapping ...

Hot Keys | Official OpenCPN Homepage
F5 just does the toolbars if you are not using vector charts
also, using CTRL and/or SHIFT keys with the above will change direction of brightness steps without going through all the steps first..

If you are already doing all this, then say what OS you are using and more details.

Re: ocpn does not go out of night mode

Hi,
I'm using windows XP on a Dell latitude laptop.
I should mention that it used to show the charts correctly in regular day-mode colors, and at some point it changed to the black and blue colors of night-mode..
i don't find how to change it back.

NIGHT MODE SCREEN DIMMING PROBLEM

I am running OpenCPN Beta 1609 on WINXP with all service packs and current MS updates.

When a CM93 chart is open the night mode menu button works correctly and allows the whole screen to be dimmed down – all OK so far.

When I select a *.KAP chart i.e. the charts provided by MARCO for New Zealand then the Night mode menu button does not dim the entire chart - it only dims the Toolbar + GPS icon + bottom chart / location bar.

Does ANYONE know why it does not dim the whole screen and the chart.

Am I missing something obvious – or is there a work around for this ????

Anyone have an idea how to solve this issue?

Re: ocpn does not go out of night mode

What is that "some point" changing?
The screen changes after a specific time in night mode without your action?
Or are you scrolling to an area where no charts are available perhaps?
What kind of charts you are using?
Which version of OpenCPN?

while trying to answer your question by looking at the charts being used i noticed that the chart directory was not correct.
updating to the correct chart directory solved it and loaded the charts in the correct color mode.

thanks.

Re: ocpn does not go out of night mode

AFAIK Marco's NZ charts set does not* include the night palette rules (see the end of the NZ Charts forum thread for a link to my little program to add those). So clicking on the sunset button does nothing for those. (but works great for me after running the KAP header enhancer : o )

[*] at least it does not yet! I still hope he will post-process with my wee program before the next .7z release so that all NZers can enjoy nice night mode. The combo of the night color rules, the monitor dimming F-key, and full screen mode really gets it down to the power LED on the monitor being the brightest thing to worry about. and a bit of thin tape fixes that.

FWIW, we had been seeing a problem with 2.5.0 on Windows XP in full screen mode where the xcalib-alike Windows shading F-key only worked on the left hand 75% of the (4:3 ratio) LCD monitor. quite odd. I half assumed it would be a known issue & there would be a flyspray issue open for it, but I haven't checked.
