Thomas...

re: In Options->Ships->Own ship

You can pick the color for tracks and waypoint range rings directly through the graphical interface, but for Range Rings for Own Ship you have to edit the .conf file. This is bound to come up in beta tests, so we may as well be consistent here.

Good catch.

Done.

Thanks
Dave

Because the screen is a rectangle the ship's position on the screen keeps changing since the farthest point ahead is changing rapidly. I think there may be an easy solution. Will investigate.
I found an acceptable to me solution. The course-up update time number in Options->Display->Advanced is a bit mislabeled. It is in reality another always on COG filter that only slows down VP rotation and makes the chart much less jumpy, In conjunction with NMEA course and speed filtering the chart moves slowly in a nice way. Maybe we should relabel the display option to reflect what it really does?

Re: OCPN Beta 4.8.1 PreAlpha

TDan please see this addition to FAQ
The manual , Options > Display > Advanced has
Quote:
Course-Up Mode Display Update Period This relates to how often the entire displayed chart is updated. The Own Ship and AIS icons are still updated every second. The default value is 15 seconds. A “zero” value is allowed! The default mode is North-up. It's easy to switch between the two modes through the right-click menu.
How would you suggest modifying this?

Perhaps to the title add (Chart Jitter Control)

Re: OCPN Beta 4.8.1 PreAlpha

My comment relates to v4.8.0 running under Windows 10. I'm posting here because I want to verify that you will address it in the new alpha:

OTCurrent plugin date selection Window is improperly sized, causing clipping of Sunday and Saturday dates. (See attached pic)

Has the been previously reported and/or addressed in the new version? If not, would you like me to post it on Flyspray?

Yes, you're right!
The "g_COGAvg" is used also in Look Ahead mode. So the average COG maintained for "Course-Up Update Period" is used here as well.

I agree we would relabel "Course-Up Update Period".
What about: "Course-Up and Look-Ahead Update Period"

OCPN Beta 4.8.1 PreAlpha

What it really does is filter the rate of chart rotation in either mode. The update rate seems to be fixed at 1 second,

Agree!
What about relabeling?
I could PR if above suggestion is ok.

(Or if Dave is here? and comply to edit?)

Hakan...

I am here.
Happy new Year!

I find "Course-Up and Look-Ahead Update Period" to be a little awkward, though accurate.

Other ideas for wording, anyone?

Thanks
Dave

RhythmDoctor ...

The appearance of the oTCurrent dialog should have improved in the latest version of the plugin (1.4 - use HiDef in preferences?). If not I will have to take another look. I don't think it is anything in Dave's code.

Thanks and a very happy new cruising year to you and all others.

As you may have noticed my English is rather limited but just to force others to suggest a correct text I've some more examples:
Course-Up and Look-Ahead screen soften time factor
Course-Up and Look-Ahead screen smother
Course-Up and Look-Ahead jumpy filter
Restless filter for Course-Up and Look-Ahead mode
Course-Up and Look-Ahead mode filter
?? -- Don't hesitate to beat me down!

Re: OCPN Beta 4.8.1 PreAlpha

How about

Course-Up/Look-Ahead Shift Interval

Course-Up/Look-Ahead Rotate Factor

Re: OCPN Beta 4.8.1 PreAlpha

How about splitting them into two controls:

Course-up Alignment Rate

Look-ahead Alignment Rate

Viking..
That's not feasible as I see it. The code for both is and have "ever" been the same. The discussion here is just to make a proper explanation so that the user is correct informed and can fully use OCPN's features. There's no functional advantage to split them.
