NV Digital Verlag Chart PlugIn

Hello Northern Europe....

Attached please find Version 1.0 of the NV Digital Verlag PlugIn for OpenCPN.

This PlugIn will allow registered owners of NV Verlag raster charts to use them on OpenCPN.

Similar to the BSB4 PlugIn, the NVC PlugIn does not in any way attempt to "crack" the encryption of the chart files. Charts to be used must have been loaded and registered by the user according to the NV Verlag instructions for Windows.

I have tested this PlugIn using minimal sample data provided by NV Digital Verlag. More extensive testing would be useful.

Feedback appreciated.

Good Luck
Dave

Re: NV Digital Verlag Chart PlugIn

Hi all ...

There is also solem feedback of the German community. The plugin seems to work flawlessly if the charts were activated on the respective system.

The NV Verlag also sells an USB dongle to unlock the charts. But when using the dongle it seems not to work (no charts shown at all).

Any experiences?

Thanks

Gunther

I use it regularly, running it under the latest beta. That has worked well except for a couple weeks when it didn't. Working fine again now.

I've Dongle and it works, but it must be inside all the time.
When I take it out, it maps to the lines.

Do not think the fault is with OpenCPN for it's the same with my other map program "TIKI".

The dongle works like a key. It is two ask inserted while starting your navigation software. Afterwards you May of remove it.
Says. Seekarten und Navigationsprogramme vom NV-Verlag,
I'll take this up with NV-Verlag,
Roger

The issue is over.
I guess he started OCPN and plugged in the dongle afterwards.

Now all is functioning 100%!

Good work Dave - thanks!

And there is another request/ question from the community:
A Linux user wanted to use the plugin, too. As there is (and ever will be?) only a Windows version of it, he then had opencpn installed on Linux with "Wine". By doing so only non-encrypted charts were recognized.

Trying to install these charts (via Wine) directly to the Linux partition ends in an error message.

Any ideas, hints or tips?

Thanks

Gunther

The answer from the "NV" Do you test two start the program as Administrator (right Klick - start as admin)?

I have deleted the folder "Chartkit" and assembled all the maps in it, without using subfolders.
When it seems that the "Chart Navigator Light" does not like sub-folders in the "Chartkit" maps.

Now working Chart Navigator Light and TIKI NAV after I take out
Dongle, but OpenCPN comes up with "Message OpenCPN has stopped working and logs off.
So is there something wrong with the Open CPN, or is it me and my PC.

rojer-jo....

Could we see your log file for the case where OpenCPN crashes?
Also, please describe the dongle action again. When is it plugged/unplugged?

Thanks
Dave

Re: NV Digital Verlag Chart PlugIn

Dave ...

many users all ask the same question:
"Will there be a Linux version of the plugin available?"

So what shall we answer ...?

Re: NV Digital Verlag Chart PlugIn

Gunther...

We answer:
"Officially, the decrypting dlls for NV Verlag charts runs under Windows only.
However, there is a possible solution for Linux involving wrapping the dlls with a Wine interface layer, and thus accessing them unmodified in linux.
An unproven theory, at this point, but on our list."

OK?

Dave

Re: NV Digital Verlag Chart PlugIn

Sorry, OpenCPN works well with plugInd of maps from N-Digital
if they are registered through the Internet.

It's Dongle to the NW-Digital causing problems with programs if a
the map from 2008 that I have and blanner those with maps from 2011.

N-Digital has not any help even if I automatically installed CHAT NAV and they sent all
error messages that popped up with the "Application" log CHAT NAV stock.

It was only when I went to a new PC and automatically installed all the map with the "Dongle" from 2011 first and checked against CHAT NAV, so everything seemed fine, until I came to the maps from 2008, when the came problem.

Dongle does not work with the map from 2008, although NW-Digital says so. Should they tell it on Monday
