Have you tried the logbook Konni plug in for OpenCPN? It can be set to record a log entry every whatever minutes, then can never exported as a kml file. Pushpin has position, speed and some other data which I can't remember. Good plug in.

I've been doing spatial data for a while but I've yet to work on a project where I can really go all-out and employ some of the advanced topology mechanisms that I've been dying to work with.

I've got a bunch of stuff built, still kind of seeing where it ends up. I'm focusing on things that I can use as a cruising sailor, and then trying to see what other people would like and put that in to. Here's my ugly-needs-to-be-cleaned-up color gradient of reported Beaufort conditions from Baja to French Polynesia.

(green = f3-f5, yellow = f6-f8, red = f9+)
