Nobody Said it Was Going to Be Easy . . .

but I did hope to get further than this before losing the will to live.
I have just tried to download OpenCPN to my Windows7 laptop but despite trying the mirror and direct connection options nothing seems to happen.
What seemed like a really good idea is rapidly becoming a chore.
Has anyone out there got any idea of what the problem might be?
There is no faq or contact us on the OpenCPN website so am I to presume that it is going to be as bad as getting any sense out of Paypal?
Perhaps I should have chosen to download Seaclear but this one seemed like the better option at the time as it did say that it was suitable for 7.

Send a message via Skype™ to sinbad7
And nobody said it was going to be difficult..if you read the manual..
OpenCPN User Manual | Official OpenCPN Homepage

Then you have to point OpenCPN to a directory on your laptop containing compatible maps before ANYTHING will HAPPEN.. CM93 and BSB will do.

You did something right - this is the place to get help, even if it takes a long time, like 15 minutes

I just tried the download with three different mirrors, without a hint of a problem. I can only assume that your problem is with your connection, one way or another.

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Declemy.

As Thomas said, you came to the right place for help. I hope Tore’s advice helped.

Nope, I have tried two other mirror sites but dont get beyond the "your download will open shortly" I dont think it is even trying!
So once I have eventually downloaded we have a chicken and egg situation, I need a file of charts on my pc. Unlike the wise US coastgaurd who put free charts online, in this backwoods country we have to buy our charts from the Admiralty but the Lifeboats are free. "Go figure" is the expression I believe you use. I think I will download a noah to try out on before spending any money. I still don't know if I am going like what I see.

I find it very hard to believe that sourceforge is down for any length of time.. Click on the "direct link" and then you should get a "save under" dialogue

Once/if you get the file downloaded, you can use the world chart or magnetic deviation chart on this page for testing:

As a Linux user I have no advice other than it sounds like something in your security settings is causing you pain. Will Anything from sourceforge download?
If not perhaps some windbloes wonk can help?

It took me .95 sec to download the .deb package just now.

Thank you Gentlemen, I'm in!
After twenty and more years of using a Mac I sometimes forget that Microsoft is designed to be used by people who drive Kia Picantos who do not know what is good for them.
