NOAA Weatherfax URL Update Needed

My name is Jim and I'm new to OpenCPN. So far I've managed to figure it out on my own by reading the OpenCPN website and the Cruisers Forum. However, I ran into a bug this evening and I don't know how to fix it.

I am running OpenCPN 4.6.1 on Windows 8. Tonight I downloaded the Weatherfax plug-in and tried to download a few files over the internet. I am able to download files from Passage Weather with no issues. However, when I try to download files from NOAA I get an error message - "Failed to Download". The software appears to be looking for the files at http://weather.noaa.gov/pub/fax/"filename".tif

When I go to NOAA's website, the associated files appear to be located at http://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/fax/"file name".tif

The error box says "If the url is incorrect please edit the xml and/or post a bug report" but since I'm a mechanical engineer, I can't figure out where to "hit it with the hammer to edit the xml"! Therefore, I'm hoping this post will satisfy the requirements of posting a bug report.

Please let me know if there is something that I need/should do differntly.

Thank you for your interest. I believe rick has already corrected the noaa urls. It has not been released for download.

You can get the updated xml from github, or just build from source.

Otherwise, or wait for a new release. I still have to debug some things before releasing again.

Thanks so much for the quick reply.

I found the xml file in the directory tree last night. However, I was not able to edit the file. It appears that I need special software to edit the file. I will give GitHub a try this evening.

Sean why not release an interim? Even the xml file I updated for the entire world should now be checked again (it is getting old!).

There are many many changes due to new urls and coords. I did this monrhs ago.

Yes I do need to add the german one, but that can be updated later.

Most current version for windows with the correct URLs and Coords. (Just a few need improvement).

OpenCPN Beta File Thingie 2.5.7 rguser, rgpass

Look under 4.6.0 Win PI directory for Weatherfax_pi_1.10_ov4.2-rick-win32.exe
This file should run with version 4.2 and up. It has new weatherfax.xml file with urls & coords completely updated for the world. Completed 4-24-2017.

It can be released now if it's ready. I still need to work on the hf fax ssb stuff.


I need a while before I can work on it. Some people in motor boats had fun driving around my boat at high speed. This destroyed my computer from water, and I am trying to get working again with an odroid c2

Sean. I am very sorry about the high speed motorboats. They can be bothersome and dangerous, and are always disruptive when close. They are used to driving on the roads only.
