I'm on Windows XP and Martin's gpx-file seems fine to me in both Ozi and Opencpn.
For myself.... I'm still trying to figure out how I can use that Ruby-script you made Thomas. I downloaded and installed Ruby but it still puzzles me a bit. Is there some way to make that script in a batchfile or something? (Yes, I'm from the MSDOS-era).

Regards,
Roel

Just open a "dos" command prompt: Start -> run -> cmd
Then write C:\ full path to the script\ name of the script gpx-file-to-convert.

When you install Ruby on Win you get 2 interpreters.
Use the CUI version not the GUI version for this kind of script.

Thomas

Hmmm,

I did'nt put my question clearly enough. My fault. The problem I am encountering is that I do not know how I can save your script as a ruby script to be used whenever I want to use it (I haven't had time yet to dive very deep into Ruby). I can copy your script from this site, but then I dont know what to do next with it...

Navigate to the folder where you want to save the script.
Right click -> new, select "Ruby Program" or if this alternative is not present "Text Document", the main thing is that the new file ends with .rb (change if necessary) Right click on the new file choose "Edit". Then just copy from the web and paste into the editor. Save ! Follow earlier instructions to run the script.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Thomas!!

I'll try that one of these days. Now I really have to close down this computer and finish the washing-up (it's 19:50 here in the Netherlands) or my wife will run her own Ruby-script!

OZI gfx to Opencpn gfx

I tried to do this with Excel 2000. I wrote a little VBA application...for Windows users. I don't know if it works with Excel 2003 or 2007...

Thumbs up

Thank you Martin, it works fine in Excel 2007! Just one thing: your Excel-application saves the file as an gfx-file and OpenCPN wants gpx. So I just renamed the gfx into gpx and then everything was fine. Thanks again!

No all waypoints visible

The waypoints i could see were only the manually created
I solved the problem deleting all the waypoints from Opencpn and importing again my gpx file !

Waypoint problems

I've been playing with OPCN, but have run into the same waypoint problem. My original wp's came from my Garmin gpsmap76csx. I've tried using GPS util and a few other programs to convert them to gpx and show in OPCN. None work. The Excel spreadsheet worked. ( The last file uploaded with fixes does not work, so I used the first) It worked.

I like OPCN, and would like to use it, but this is a deal killer for me. I've tried several other programs, and have been able to easily open a gpx file. Is there something that can be done to address this bug?

Hi, sailorjed Sorry for the new bug, i send the correction I don't understand your exact problem Has the gpxfile created the same structure as in my martingale.gpx exemple? if no, have you tried the program GPSBABEL? if yes, have you tried to delete all the waypoints in OPCPN (right-click on a visible waypoint and delete all) ?

Yes, I fixed this in a patch available Forums - Post 405895">here. I think it needs more testing before going into the release version.
Also, I believe that the waypoint visibility changed somewhere between v. 1.3.4 and 1.3.6. Certainly smooth import of GPX files from other systems is very important.

windows

Thanks for the link to the patch. However as I stated, I'm using windows XP, not linux. Is there a patch that will directly apply to XP?

The patch is applicable to the source as distributed in sourceforge file opencpn-1.3.6.tar.bz2. It is not "direct" in the sense that one needs to recompile the modified source. For Win32 I can only offer to email the opencpn.exe for direct replacement.
I am aware of 3 successful builds on Vista, no feedback on Linux published.
With some patience, it is better to apply all previous patches in sequence, as in this Forums - Post 414957">patch-IRJDSUNE9932123321222xxeww-summary.
