NMEA 2000 USB gateway YDNU-02 and OpenCPN 5.0

Hi all.
The NMEA 2000 USB gateway emulates a serialport in Windows 7, in my case COM7. Its a driver from STM electronics that setup a virtual serial port.

OpenCPN 5.0 see that comport but fails to open it.

BUT if I first open the comport using a serial port application like Realterm, then close Realterm and start OpenCPN, everything works fine.

Any idea about this?

Really hate to state the obvious. Win 7 is dead. Banks have even switched away from it.

In the first case I get a feeling something is occupying the port when OCPN try to connect. Could there be a auto start of a driver for Realterm that is closed down when you actually close Realterm before the second OCPN try?

I have now reinstalled the PC using Windows 10 64bit.
The only software installed are OpenCPN 5.0 and Putty.

Still same problem. I need to start Putty, open serial port, close Putty and then start OpenCPN.

If I start OpenCPN first, the virtual serialport COM4 to YDNU-02 is not opening.

I have another serialport to a Miniplex-2s also, that (USB) serialport is working correctly all the time.
