That document dates from 2009, I'm not sure how much of its content became widely implemented. I've certainly never seen some of those features in the data streams I've worked with, perhaps others have.

NMEA is way past 4.0, it's 4.11. Already for quite some time so old news

I think it was a few years ago I updated O’s understanding of NMEA V4 for messages I could find in a VDR file. So O already handles the ones I was able to get my hands on. I am not privy to the NMEA docs so I had to figure it out from some public information and the VDR file.

So far I have not seen any new V4 message complaints but if I see one here I am happy to try to reverse engineer and teach O how to handle it.

Thanks. TDan. There are probably some users who may have more info, like Jose Louis [Tehani]

Hello,

This page was updated at the end of 2018.

His earlier version was rich in teaching. There is no reason to think that this new version has regressed.

That said, his editor makes it clear that this is an unofficial document.

It doesn't affect nmea2000. It pretty much doesn't affect opencpn. TAG blocks would have mucked up the sentence processing in opencpn of a few years ago but are simply ignored following the tidy up of sentence processing done a few years ago (by Pavel?). I'm sure there's still things out there whose sentence processing would be broken by TAG blocks.

The miniplex-3 can use TAG blocks to indicate which input a sentence came in on.
kplex will ignore TAG blocks on input but can be directed to output source tag blocks or timestamp TAGs. The latter are handy if you want to replay data at a later point

TTD is good for confusing punters about an app's radar "support": GPSNavX claimed to support radar but rather than being a radar overlay it was support for display of TTD data.
