Re: New Waypoint Properties Implementation

Here is how I am using the POI facility in OCPN. I have created new icons for VIDEO - AUDIO - INFO - WARNING which are available from my ICON library for download.

The POI´s are linked to a URL or your local drive and will be uploaded to my library 4STORE for free downloads.

For the moment,I am having to convert all .mp3 audio files to .waw as the interface will not accept .mp3 files presently.

The example shown here comes from a video POI located in Sao Paulo-Brazil and includes a HD video of Sao Paulo city and another of a recent evaluation of Brazil with interviews of President Lula as well as Eike Batista, one of Brazil´s wealthiest businessmen. I think you will find both quite interesting.

Re: New Waypoint Properties Implementation (POI)

My POI archive on 4shared has several links to videos describing interesting areas. The videos are meant to be located on your own PC for the most perfect replay, also without internet. You can download all my latest POI´s from my archive, but you will have to download the videos listed in the POI links from my recently added VIDEO library, also on 4shared.

4shared folder - VIDEOS

http://www.4shared.com/folder/HYALDWrf/POI_ARCHIVE.html

Remember, before running the downloaded videos from your POI areas, you have to alter the links path to suit your own video locations.

Just before you start the actual video downloads, you will be able to play them.

Remember,´One look is worth a thousand tellings!´

I would recommend you to download the latest 4share Desktop up/downloader which is fast and can handle multiple files:

4shared folder - 4SHARED DESKTOP PROGRAM

Re: New Waypoint Properties Implementation

Here is another handy way to use POI´s in your OCPN map:

Find latitude and longitude with Google Maps

Include the link in an OpenCPN POI .gpx file and just click on the POI without leaving OpenCPN.

Then use the ´Jump to position´ in OpenCPN and insert the geo locs.

Only works when you have internet access, but still, very useful.

Re: New Waypoint Properties Implementation

Revisiting xtide, brought up an idea. The mark properties could be used for an alternative tide display. The key is to have the xtide webserver, xttpd, running on your local computer.

Xtide already comes with the dataset split up in zones/reference stations.
A layer could be scripted for each.
Anyone with experience of running xttpd on windows?
I think that someone requested that a double click on a mark should bring up the properties dialog, but what about if it instead displayed the first link?

Hey Tore,

Thanks for sharing your POI gpx files, there's so much great information there. Using 4shared is really great for videos, but for text files there's a much better way - check out github.com - using git to manage your collection of text files will enable you and others to manage the files, update and change, as well as share easily. Thats why millions of programmers use it for managing their code (which are basically just text files).

If you want an example to get started, check out the opencpn_extras project I've started:

https://github.com/ktec/opencpn_extras

I strongly encourage you to spend ten minutes to register with github, and follow their simple tutorials to set up your opencpn_poi project. Until you do that, if its ok with you, I'll add some links to your 4shared archive in the opencpn_extras project.

cheers
Keith

Hi Keith..

Thanks for your suggestions but I have set up a 100GB Google Drive (cloud)
to cover most of my heavy data files. I have also put my POI links there.

You can access it here: https://drive.google.com/?authuser=1#my-collections

´The Chartroom´requires user identification and is presently in an alphabethic
upload phase at the moment.

Regards

Re: New Waypoint Properties Implementation

Pavel/Keith...

I have installed the latest version 3 OCPN on a new desktop running Win7.

I have a weird problem with my POI setup where only the POI files for the UK and Brazil are visible. All the other POI´s from around the world are not displaying, either from the layers area of the Route Manager,or when trying to import to the WPT area.

All my POI files located both in my DataFiles/layers area as well as in the OCPN/layers area are intact and working as can be seen when I use my laptop.

It seems certain layers does not display.. How can I check/correct this?

Re: New Waypoint Properties Implementation

Hi Tore, my first suggestion would be to checkout the log file - not sure where it is on windows, but I'm sure you can find it. Clear it (backup if necessary), then run OpenCPN and attempt toggle visibility on each layer/poi file. See if that gives any clues, or post here and I'm sure someone will be able to spot whats happening,

Re: New Waypoint Properties Implementation

Pavel/Keith..

I have done everything I can think of but most of my POI´s do not show up on OCPN in spite of the fact that all my POI files are correct and contain the right data.

What I do NOT understand is why ONLY my UK and Brazilian POI´s show up?

I am not familiar with the programing structure of the layers feature, but is it so that each of my country files are located on a separate layer, say from 1-10 etc.?
How can I check that OCPN actually reads the correct layers and are not missing some?

Using my laptop, all POI´s are displaying,so it must be something pequliar to my new desktop PC and Win7.

Appreciate your advice..

Tore

Re: New Waypoint Properties Implementation

Tore

From your screen-dump it's apparent that many of your layers does not contain any items. Check the column -> No.of Items in the route manager!
Compare the layers files on both of your computers. Open them with a text editor, and also compare sizes.
The log file lists loaded layers.

Re: New Waypoint Properties Implementation

Thomas..

That´s just the point.. Look at the directories on my #190 posting. All the files contain what they should. Only the files loaded into the default layers of the Route Manager are empty? And why are SOME layers loaded and others not?

Re: New Waypoint Properties Implementation

Having checked the opencpn log file, every time I have started OCPN today, the following layers were loaded as per the logs:
8:45:31 AM: Getting .gpx layer files from: C:\ProgramData\opencpn\layers
8:45:31 AM: New layer 1: BRAZIL-POIS
8:45:31 AM: New layer 2: East_Mediterranean
8:45:32 AM: New layer 3: Marine.Poi
8:45:32 AM: New layer 4: NORWEGIAN POIS
8:45:32 AM: New layer 5: N_Europe
8:45:32 AM: New layer 6: The World
8:45:32 AM: New layer 7: UK POIS
8:45:32 AM: New layer 8: USA
8:45:32 AM: New layer 9: West Caribbean
8:45:32 AM: New layer 10: WX_WORLD

Problem is,only a few of them loaded although the originals are perfect?
