New to OpenCPN - Strange "Font" Error...

Hi


My name is Ruediger and i'm from the NW Coast of germany. I'm new in using OpenCPN and have installed it from the Fedora/Centos Repo on the latest release of Centos 7/64.


While playing around i noticed an error after the first start. After opening the settings dialog the text view ist unreadable and looks very damaged. But after changing the size of the window it looks all fine.



Is this an centos specific error and is there a way to fix that.?

We have never seen this so yes, it is a CentOS specific problem. I would suspect outdated wxWidgets version.

OK, maybe your wright. Thats sometimes the problem with "very good tested" software and linux OS like Centos and RHEL...


Think i've have to do some deeper digging to find a solution to fix that in a self compiled
version...

if you want to start to compile from base, consider the beta for OCPN 5.0 that is available since some days. As all the new stuff will require wxWidget 3.1.2 you might want to give this a try directly in order to avoid to start again later with outdated wxWidgets based parts.

not for Linux. 05 is still linked in the case against wx-3.0.4

That may be but I would still recommend working with the latest version of wxWidgets your system will support. The wxWidgets library has improved a lot of things in the 3.1+ branch. And O has been brought up to date and compiles against even the latest git version of wxWidgets.

In this case it is linked against wx3.0.2 from EPEL, which was not updated since 2016. We probably might be able to implement some workaround for it, but even installing a CentOS machine with GUI is somewhere very very low on my list of things I could invest my time to...

Yes, i understand that. Most of the linux users prefer somethink like *buntu or one of the many derivatives...


It is more or less a cosmetic problem and doesn't make it unuseable...
