Re: New Plugin NmeaConvertor

Hello. I found a little bug in the nmea converter. When I force the magnetic variation to 0 in GPRMC I found that max. 9 fields wil be converted. And I like to use 12 fields. Please can you change the maximum fields ? See two attachments, You can see that field that field 11 contains the same data as field 1
Greetings,

Arnold

Re: New Plugin NmeaConvertor

WITH PI NMEA CONVERTER 0.2, if the user create convertion lines (2) and then desable the pluggin, and enable it again , the conversion lines created before are corrupted (New lines empty or with $dummy or loss of some lines. If the user do it again (deable and then enable) the conversion lines are further corrupted.

I have wrote a bugg on that on the tracker.

Is this bug resolved? What is trackerid - couldnt find it.
Also this (VERY USEFULL!) plugin seem to have disappeared from latest ocpn list.

Re: New Plugin NmeaConvertor

I would like to suggest a different role for this plugin, wanted to check if possible. Many of us sailors use HF radio. Marine HF radio are often controlled via nmea sentences with a checksum. Icom marine radios are universally supported by HF programs such as Winlink Express via nmea sentences that begin with $PICOM.... I need to replace the first five characters to something like $PSEAS..., keeping all characters and recomputing the checksum.

Would it be possible to compile a standalone version of this nmea converter that looks like a serial driver, mapping a virtual port to a hardware serial port. Then one can connect the HF software to the virtual port, the radio to the hardware port and input the translation rules. If needed it could be done/configured via OpenCPN.

Re: New Plugin NmeaConvertor

GPS gate can do that for you IIRC. Create ass many virtual ports as you want (licenced version), and quite a bit of sentence manipulation.

There is no sentence manipulation in GPS Gate that I have ever found.

Re: New Plugin NmeaConvertor

GREAT job.

To be max usable, the plug in could actually allow any sentences in, then allow the user to transform any input sentence to any format output sentence. This would allow for SeaTalk as well as Android sensor inputs.

I am wondering how you handle the resulting checksums.

I will try to give it a ride later today.

THANKS & Cheers,
b.

Re: New Plugin NmeaConvertor

It installs like any executible plugin. I believe there is a current version on Opencpn Beta File Thingie (only windows) use rguser rgpassand look for the most recent version in the directories. Alternatively, do a search in the manual for it. It nay be under development plugins.

Hi,
I have a problem with "E" displaying as "3", and noticed the same in the example from Arnold.
Anyone else have this issue and is there a known way to fix it?

Brgds,
Magnus

The only version found through the manual is over two years old and is undoubtedly incompatible with O4.8.

I find a reference to Beta File Thingie quite incomprehensible and searching the Ocpn site reveals nothing. Where is this "Thingie"? Can you please provide a link for us ordinary users?

Maybe this plugin should be moving out of Beta?
look in 4.2.0 Win PI

@Hoolie
Just remember OpenCPN is powered by a "Volunteer Army" and ungrateful is unpleasant.
I could just take it down.
