Dave,

I added them to "OpenCPN 3.3.x. Beta" as there is no V2.2 for the Grib project in Flyspray and wasn't sure what else to do with them. Hopefully that is OK.

Re: New Grib Presentation

Hello Ptizef,

I completed the web page (see my previous post). And testing the display of the waves, I found that the size of the arrows could not be changed.

I open a track in flyspray. See FS#1311.

Re: New Grib Presentation

Coming Soon. Try it!
https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN/pull/94

Quote:
In the request dialog , a button "moving grib enable" / "moving grib disable" is displayed if Saildocs is the choice.
Clicking on this button opens a pop-up allowing to enable/disable the moving grib request and enter speed and course.
The necessary elements are added in the mail image.
These files are incompatible with interpolation, so a "moving file" is detected at start and a warning is displayed. interpolation, if set is deactivated. (only for this file, the settings are not modified).
Thanks Jean Pierre!

Re: New Grib Presentation

Hello,

Unless I am mistaken, the grib files, accessible via the links on this website are GRIB2 files. They are unusable with OCPN.

Anyone know where to find it but GRIB1 files on the Canadian site?

Re: New Grib Presentation

GRIB FILES
This Walking or moving grib can move in boat's direction & speed, is under 10 kb, has 4 x 6 degree area, 1/2 degree resolution,
3 hrs up to 1 1/2 days, then 6 hrs up to 2 days, then 12 hrs up to 6 days.
Send email to query@saildocs.com, Message: GFS line below, Subj: grib.
================================================== ===========
File: Lat Long info | Grid | Time Interval | Data | Speed, Direction GFS:42N,38N,070W,076W|0.5,0.5|6,9..18,24..48,60..1 44|WIND|4.5,079
Leave NO SPACES between! eg: |6(comma)9(dot)(dot)18(comma)24

File: Targets file type request.
GFS is typical wind wave file from NOAA often all that is needed.

Lat Long info: 4 x 6 or 6 x 4 is pretty good.
42N,38N 4 degrees
070W,076W 6 degrees

Grid this is the resolution of the grib information.
0.5,0.5 is 1/2 x 1/2 degree - the finest resolution available.
1,1 is 1 x 1 degrees
2,2 is 2 x 2 degrees
When you have as small an area as we have selected, you need the 0.5,0.5

Time Interval by components:
0, no zero shown because we know the wind, now, save kb.
6,9 sets increment to 3 hours (smallest allowed) 9 - 6 = 3 hours.
6,9..18 repeat 3 hr from 6 to 18 hrs. 18 - 9 = 9 hrs, 9/3 =3<--must be integer.
18,24 sets increment to 6 hours. 24 - 18 = 6 hrs.
18,24..48 then repeat 6 hr from 18 to 48 hrs, 48 - 24 = 24 , 24 = 6 x 4<-- integer, no fraction.
48,60 sets increment to 12 hrs. 60 - 48 = 12 hrs.
48,60..144 then repeat 12 hr from 48 hr to 144 hr

Data Types - used to select which data types you want
WIND,PRESS,APCP (rain),TCDC,AIRTMP,HTSGW,WVDIR,CAPE

Speed, Direction - Creates the walking or moving grib
4.5,079 Speed in knots, bearing in degrees approximating the boat path.

Question
=======
In SSB Winlink grib saildoc file attachments can by up to 12 kb. The WIND grib file above is 9kb. It would be very nice to be able to request separate but identical gribs for PRESS, WAVES and CAPE and be able to combine therm easily for ease of use.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to do this? If there is an msdos command that will concatenate two files??? I could then build a batch file calling 9 kb files WIND.grb, PRESS.grb, WAVES.grb, CAPE.grb and just run that?

I think this capability would be very useful for receiving smaller single data type SSB grib files, and then joining them easily.

Thank you.
Rick

PS Pitzef has been working marvels with the moving grib request capability and in many other ways on this pluign which keeps getting betrre. Thank you!

I am not necessarily asking for feature in the grib_pi at this point, I'd just like to figure out a way to do this before June, via use of a small batch file or something, so I can pull small <10 kb files with single but different data types together into a single file.

PS: This stuff is really working nicely now.

Jean Paul,

your are under OS_X, right?
Which mail program are you using? Not the OS-X mail perhaps?

Do you have "xdg-utils" installed?
This is required for the mail to work, the way you describe it.
"xdg-utils" should work for Mac, but as far as I can recall, this has never been confirmed. Time to find out....

-----
Check your opencpn.log file for a message regarding missing xdg-utils.

Alternatively you can set up a mail-server to work with the grib-requests.
Check the main grib page in the wiki + this page http://opencpn.org/ocpn/mail_servers for instructions.

This is a problem that needs to be solved for the grib-plugin.
We have MAPI to find the email client on windows, and we have xdg-email to find the same thing on Linux/unix. This is just a shell-script, and it does not look like it deals with Mac specifics.
Is there a corresponding Mac utility, or command, to find the users email program?

Re: New Grib Presentation

You have to invoke and to configure sendmail/postfix which is part of OS X:

Code:
sudo mkdir -p /Library/Server/Mail/Data/spool

            sudo gzip  /usr/share/man/man1/{postalias.1,postcat.1,postconf.1,postdrop.1,postfix.1,postkick.1,postlock.1,postlog.1,postmap.1,postmulti.1,postqueue.1,postsuper.1,sendmail.1}

            sudo gzip  /usr/share/man/man5/{access.5,aliases.5,bounce.5,canonical.5,cidr_table.5,generic.5,header_checks.5,ldap_table.5,master.5,mysql_table.5,nisplus_table.5,pcre_table.5,pgsql_table.5,postconf.5,postfix-wrapper.5,regexp_table.5,relocated.5,tcp_table.5,transport.5,virtual.5}

            sudo gzip  /usr/share/man/man8/{anvil.8,bounce.8,cleanup.8,discard.8,error.8,flush.8,local.8,master.8,oqmgr.8,pickup.8,pipe.8,proxymap.8,qmgr.8,qmqpd.8,scache.8,showq.8,smtp.8,smtpd.8,spawn.8,tlsmgr.8,trivial-rewrite.8,verify.8,virtual.8}

            sudo /usr/sbin/postfix set-permissions

            sudo chmod 700 /Library/Server/Mail/Data/mta
Your further configuration depends of the used mail provider. It must be configured in /etc/postfix/main.cf
Example:
Code:
# Minimum Postfix-specific configurations. mydomain_fallback = localhost mail_owner = _postfix setgid_group = _postdrop relayhost=smtp.googlemail.com:587  # Enable SASL authentication in the Postfix SMTP client. smtp_sasl_auth_enable=yes smtp_sasl_password_maps=hash:/etc/postfix/sasl_passwd smtp_sasl_security_options=  # Enable Transport Layer Security (TLS), i.e. SSL. smtp_use_tls=yes smtp_tls_security_level=encrypt tls_random_source=dev:/dev/urandom
Because there is no benefit to get gribs by email or using e.g. zyGrib I have once tested it and never used it further.
