Re: 'Network LIBGPS' Data Source Problems

Thomas....

What version of gpsd is included as standard on your linux distro?

$/usr/sbin/gpsd -V

gives me 2.36, and it does not work with OCPN, probably due to libgps problems. I get "libgps version mismatch" error dialog.

With gpsd 2.94 all works fine.

Dave

Yes it s probably a gpsd version problem....

Ubuntu 11.04
/usr/sbin/gpsd -V
gpsd: 2.95 (revision 2010-12-03T21:16:03)

On 32 bits Ubuntu 10.10 with gpsd 2.94 there was no problem getting gps going after xgps had started. Very quick test!

Gotta go ...

Re: 'Network LIBGPS' Data Source Problems

All my problems have been with the 2.95 versions.

This morning I tested my OpenCPN front end against the gpsd which is running on my boat. OCPN worked fine with and without other libgps clients running. This gpsd instance is 2.94 running on OpenWRT 10.03.1-rc4 (2.4 broadcom build).

It looks like a possible regression between 2.94 and 2.95. Either that or the different gps hardware is the root of the problem (I am not exactly comparing apples-apples).

Re: 'Network LIBGPS' Data Source Problems

not related to this thread AFAICT, but fyi, the gpsd api has changed twice since 2.92.

the main version floating around right now is libgps19.so, but after 2.96(?) it has changed again. The new libgps20 has not slipped into any ubuntu or debian distributions yet, but I expect it will in the near future.

AFAIK all is good with opencpn + gpsd 2.92-2.95 on all modern debian+ubuntus. I have not tested the brand new 2.96 though; more #ifdef's may be needed.
