Trying to sync my GPS position to the chart layer and the Google Earth window too. Where can I find some 'how to' information?

I am using Nexus 6 with ShareGPS to deliver NMEA GPS info to OpenCPN on a windows 10 machine.

There is a checkbox on the bottom of the GE plugin window to set whether you want to keep the viewports in sync. The boat position together with last part of the track is displayed on the GE window as well.
Doesn't your display look like this?

Does now. Thanks. Had to turn it on and off a few times though. Probably my impatience.

I was trying to do a transparent GE overlay, but I couldn't match zoom levels. The mouse wheel doesn't provide enough granularity and there isn't a readily available way to sync zoom levels between windows. Am I missing something?

No, you are not missing anything. There is nothing like scale in GE - you change "altitude of the camera" over a sphere. It will never match *exactly* the scale of the chart in OpenCPN. Actually the best we can do (as the chart and GE views can and usually also do have different geometry) is what we do now - try to cover the same area as the chart covers (Yes, I did try several other concepts while developing the plugin and they all worked worse than this one).
If you want charts created from GE, use GE2KAP, the purpose of this plugin is simply something slightly different.

If you have access to areal photos of the interesting areas, you can easily transform your areal photos to .KAP files and use them with Opencpn - better than Goggle earth and no internet connection required during sailing.
