Re: Navico radar plugin v3.0 released

Andreas..
All O and plugin preferences are saved in the same file oepncpn.conf/opencpn.ini.
Search for e.g. "ThresholdBlue" to find the plugins/radar_pi part of the file. (Are you running BR24radar_pi or radar_pi? They have theirs own settings but are often called the same.)

I'm not sure if we really need to play with these settings. The lower threshold 50 we've found being relevant to filter "scrap". Of course it plays together with the radar gain. The others are more cosmetic to control when the color should change. But feel free to experiment yourself and prove me wrong.

Re: Navico radar plugin v3.0 released

Hi,

I came across your BR24 plugin and it's source code. Referring to that I code, I have been trying to join multicast socket groups in Java.

Here I am assuming that very first step to connect with the radar is to join multicast socket groups at 236.6.7.8/9/10. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Unfortunately, those requests are not going through for me.

However when I start the radar once through OpenCPN and your plugin, and then start my Java code, I am able to see that those Java multicast socket join requests are going through fine.

Could you please spare a moment and throw some insight that why this might be the case?

Looking forward for your help please.

HALO: yes, but with the as of yet unreleased "new & revised" plugin. if you need it quickly, and want to use it with OpenCPN 4.8.x then Douwe can supply you a version that will work for you.

WiFi: meh .... most WiFi routers do NOT pass multicast data and thus they do not work. This will only work at 5 GHz as 2.4 is too slow. I have had success with Cisco Linksys EA4500. The official statement is: you're better of using wired Ethernet.

Good so I will be able to connect directly with wifi of the interface box of radar without any separate router

Any idea when the new plugin will be available

No you cannot. The radar interface box RI-12 for Halo https://www.simrad-yachting.com/simr...ar-halo-ri-12/ does NOT do WIFi. None of the Navico wifi devices support the mode required that I explained above.

Probably somewhere end of this year or early next year, when our boats are on dry land and we have spare time.

Re: Navico radar plugin v3.0 released

Hi

My Simrad 4G radar (brand new) goes into Standby mode after 15-16 sec of transmitting. I can turn on transmitting again and have it work for another 15-16 sec and so on.

Tested on 2 computers and with cable and wifi – same problem.
Worked OK some days ago. Any idea what it can be? Can I have changed some settings causing this?

Thanks.

Kjetil.

Re: Navico radar plugin v3.0 released

Please try to disable the Windows Defender firewall.

If that does not help:
Set in the in the radar section of the opencpn.ini file VerboseLog=5, run the radar until it stops, and get me the opencpn.log file. Then I will try to see what is happening there.

Thanks. Windows Defender is not the problem- I have sent you the log file.

Re: Navico radar plugin v3.0 released

Hi,
I am running OCPN 4.8.6 with the br24 3.0 plugin.
I have a B&G G4 radar with an R10.
The ethernet runs into my router.
I can see the radar as a device on my router so I'm assuming I have it wired OK.
I can't see the radar on my computer in OCPN.
Do I need to setup a connection for the device?
If so what port? Only port I can see is 49652.
Is the comm type TCP, UDP or GPDS?
Hoping for some direction.
Thanks,
Sam

No. These are used for NMEA0183 communication only and have no relationship to any radar.

If communication between the radar and the plugin is possible all the rest is automatic. The only condition is that the ethernet device in the computer needs to have an IPv4 address.

Do you see the radar info window? What does it say? Upload a screenshot of that window if your problem is not resolved.
