FAQ and Traditional Radar Plotting Methods have been removed from that page now.

The overlay may better show only true trails, so that the target has indeed been in every location of the trail.
Yes, after thinking about it I agree with you. I was to much focused on Chart overlay. The traditional ppi is the tool when identificated a potential risk of collision, yes.

Thanks guys.

Re: Navico radar plugin v3.0 released

Hi,

this afternoon I found the time to make some more tests with the plugin, my raspberry and my 3g Radar.

I feed the pi with a simulated nmea stream with all sentences who are needed excepted the AIS sentences. The Simulator program I used canīt generate this.

It works, I can generate Marpa tragets and let them tracked by the plugin.

Some questions left.

The Marpa target numbers will just count up with every new marpa target. If I delete one and then make a new one it gets the next following number. Is there a limit? Or can they just count up and up and up? The Counter will reset when starting oc new. But when running oc I didnīt found a possibility to reset the Counter. So when running oc for longer time and use the Radar plugin itīs possible that the value for this counter will reach a (not known) limit?

The roll-over window is only a white blank area. Is this the known roll-over issue? The right-klick info menue works.
Tried the refreshrate=1 sugestion and hiding the ppi window but no change. But I didnīt shut down and restart oc maybe this was a fault.

When this is the known roll-over issue the fix is just the one word change (NULL change to "m_pcontext")?

I attached some pics. The first one is my "test station" with the raspberry a 13"widescreen (which runs on 12V and will be the new nav Screen for the boat) for the pi and the laptop for the nmea Simulation.
Pics two to four shows the working plugin with radaroverlay, ppi and a marpa target.
On pic two you can see, the cpu load is round 24%.

Last pic shows the roll over window, is this the known issue?

Regards

Andreas

Hi,

the roll-over theme was the known issue.
After using the "one word fix suggestion" and reinstall the new builded package the roll-over window works now .

Marpa with RPI

Andreas,

" 13"widescreen (which runs on 12V and will be the new nav Screen for the boat) for the pi"

Which monitor is it?
Also
what power source do you use?
what rpi case?
anything else needed for marpa... we have your posts about arduino...

There's a good record here. Thanks.

Hi,

Iīll cut out the answers for the screen from this thread and open a new one.

I made a test session here at home. Yesterday and today. Today with the new changed and builded oc to fix the roll-over-window prob.
For this I feed the raspi with a nmea stream from a simulator programm which can generate a permanently stream of real-like nmea sentences and send them to the serial port. From there I send them to a serial/usb Connection to the raaspi. Itīs the same way like the nmea sentences on board will come to the raspi.
Sadly I canīt test the arduino compass with the plugin and the radar, cause I donīt have the nmea/simnet connection here at home which is needed.
So for the test session here at home I used the "use COG as heading" option in preferences.

I tested the arduino compass since yet with a Laptop which can read nmea sentences at a serial port.

Regards

Andreas

Re: Navico radar plugin v3.0 released

Andreas,

Your question on ARPA target numbering:
Target numbering starts at 1 and counts up until 9999. After that it starts at 1 again. I took a rather large upper limit to prevent more targets getting the same number, OpenCPN would get confused by this.

Re: Navico radar plugin v3.0 released

Hi,

the radar I bought is a 3g. The plug in said the datum from the fw was dez.2016. Cause of this I thought I need to update the fw cause the new one is from June 2017 (simrad web site). So the dealer lent me a mfd to make an update of the fw. But when I connected the radar with the mfd it told me that the fw-version was still the new one, the 3.3.17 Version (this is the one for 3g).

So I tested the 3g Modell with the fw-Version 3.3.17 yes, and it works.

Re: Navico radar plugin v3.0 released

For info:
The roll-over theme patch is now merged by Dave into O core code. So O build from Github Master will now fit for Navico radar_pi v 3.0 as well.

Re: Navico radar plugin v3.0 released

Hi,

using a Navico-Radar with an original MFD (e.g. simrad NSS evo3) itīs possible to use a control called "Radar threshold". It sets the required signal strength for the lowest radar signals. Radar returns below this Limit are filtered out and are not displayed.

Itīs not clear if this is a function controls a filter in the radome or in the MFD, unfortunenally I havnīt a MFD to test it.

It seems to be a useful control, maybe a point for a next Version of the plugin?

Regards

Re: Navico radar plugin v3.0 released

Andreas..
I would say we have the same function, although not user adjustable from a control. As you've noticed the radar picture has three colors symbolizing the signal strength. The color are default blue, green and red but that can be changed in preferences. Thresholds for each color are set in config:
ThresholdBlue=50
ThresholdGreen=100
ThresholdRed=200

Re: Navico radar plugin v3.0 released

Hi,

Håkan , very good to know. In the oc-config or in which one?

I suggest to add in a future version of the plugin a control field in the menue to control this value? Maybe as a userajustable variable as a factor which is multiplicated with the values for the three colors?

Regards
