Navico radar plugin v3.0 beta3 (v3.907) released

Dear radar users,

The Navico radar plugin team is happy to announce that we've wrapped up the development of v3.0, and the final beta is here.

See https://github.com/canboat/BR24radar...tag/v3.0-beta3 for the downloads for Microsoft Windows and macOS.

Since the last beta we've done some polish and a minor feature: you can now set the offset of the radar antenna relative to where your GPS antenna is on the boat; this is used to improve the chart overlay. Obviously this only helps with short ranges such as 50m.

This is the final beta, and unless we find any damning bugs the only anticipated change for the production release is to add more translations.

Teething troubles ?

Perhaps I am doing something wrong ?

OpenCPN 4.8.0
BR24 Beta 3

Radar Overlay on.
Set range to manual 50M
Set GPS offset, works well.
Start Radar Window

Can not get info on AIS targets in Radar Window ? Perhaps feature request ?

Targets are not correct on radar window?
OpenCPN in Course up Mode.

Close OpenCPN
restart and OpenCPN crashes ?

Re: Navico radar plugin v3.0 beta3 (v3.907) released

I can not seem to reproduce the problem where the AIS targets are drawn in the wrong spot. Now the Radar window always shows "Stabilized".
The only thing I can think of is that I spent a bit of time looking at the plugin preferences in configuration.

The crash is quite repeatable:
If I shut down OpenCPN with the RADAR on, then when I restart OpenCPN it crashes.

Win10 Home 1607

Re: Navico radar plugin v3.0 beta3 (v3.907) released

The picture shows the radar was in non stabilized head up mode. In that mode it should not draw AIS targets at all. Once you select a heading mode it should not allow you to choose this mode since you have a compass.

This is probably because you had it installed before and had head up mode selected, with compass this is now replaced with head up stabilized. We haven't tested upgrades enough, small bug.

As to the crash on start, can you create an issue on github and upload a log file with Verbose set to 63?

Re: Navico radar plugin v3.0 beta3 (v3.907) released

Latest results show that @NahanniV is now up and running with a new test version.

We'll need 2 more translation strings as an outcome -- the display of AIS/ARPA targets on the PPI window is now optional. It's a good option to have, as the AIS display can get a little too much if your PPI window is small compared to the main chart display as you can see in the attached file!

If we have no further issues the production release should be available in a few days. We do urge everyone to test the latest beta 4 (v3.911) at

https://github.com/canboat/BR24radar_pi/releases/tag/v3.0-beta4

The experience with NahanniV shows that the fact that something works for the 3 developers is not a guarantee that it works for everybody, so PLEASE if you run the radar plugin help us to TEST it! Otherwise if the production version does not work for you it may take us a while to fix it for you, as we want to work on the next version

Re: Navico radar plugin v3.0 beta3 (v3.907) released

Hi!

I've been trying to compile the Navico Radar plugin using MS Visual Studio Community 2013 in DEBUG mode. I get to compile it without any error or warning.

But when I copy the dll and the other files from the debug folder to the OpenCPN plugins folder, and run OpenCPN, I get the following error:

When I compile it in RELEASE mode, everything works just fine!

I am using the latest versions of both Open CPN (4.8.0) and the plugin (3.911).

I need DEBUG mode, because I need to modify the plugin and I need to be able to debug my modifications.

Any pointers?

Thanks!

Those asserts are sometimes a nuisance. Hit cancel.

Before the assert window is opened, this one appears:

Then, after I hit "Cancel" in the assert window, the "Unknown image data format" window keeps opening many times in a row, until OpenCPN finally abends...

Re: Navico radar plugin v3.0 beta3 (v3.907) released

eduardo....
You can't use a debug dll in runtime use, for that you need a release dll as you've experienced.
To debug in VS2013 and break in a plugin you need to run ocpn in debug mode from VS and have the plugin built inbound like for example Dashboard. And the plugin dll must be found by the core program, so you've to adjust pluginmanager to find it, see below.
You also need to first compile for debug. Then copy the plugin dll to the place where you set pluginmanager to find it and then run in debug mode. This dll copy you have to do every time you change the plugin code.

Adjust pluginmamanger.
I make it this way: (Since I'm a bit lacy I let pluginmanager take care of the dll copying.)
Code:
bool PlugInManager::LoadAllPlugIns(const wxString &plugin_dir, bool load_enabled, bool b_enable_blackdialog)
{
    pConfig->SetPath( _T("/PlugIns/") );
    SetPluginOrder( pConfig->Read( _T("PluginOrder"), wxEmptyString ) );

    // Enable the compatibility dialogs if requested, and has not been already done once.
    m_benable_blackdialog = b_enable_blackdialog && !m_benable_blackdialog_done;

    #if _DEBUG //Has for debug use
#ifdef __WXMSW__
    bool x;
    wxString f, volume, path, name, ext, mess;
    wxString destf, Dest = _T("C:\\Builds\\OCPN\\OpenCPN\\build\\plugins\\Debug_pi\\");

    f = wxFindFirstFile(_T("C:\\Builds\\OCPN\\OpenCPN\\build\\plugins\\dashboard_pi\\Debug\\*.*"), wxFILE);
        while (!f.empty())
        {
            wxFileName::SplitPath(f, &volume, &path, &name, &ext);
            destf = Dest;
            destf << name << _T(".") << ext;
            x = wxCopyFile(f, destf, true);
            f = wxFindNextFile();
        }
        mess = name;

    f = wxFindFirstFile(_T("C:\\Builds\\OCPN\\OpenCPN\\build\\plugins\\wmm_pi\\Debug\\*.*"), wxFILE);
        while (!f.empty())
        {
            wxFileName::SplitPath(f, &volume, &path, &name, &ext);
            destf = Dest;
            destf << name << _T(".") << ext;
            x = wxCopyFile(f, destf, true);
            f = wxFindNextFile();
        }
        mess << _T(" and ") << name;
        //x = wxCopyFile(_T("C:\\Builds\\OCPN\\OpenCPN\\build\\plugins\\BR24radar_pi\\Debug\\br24radar_pi.dll"),
        //  _T("C:\\Builds\\OCPN\\OpenCPN\\build\\plugins\\Debug_pi\\br24radar_pi.dll"), true);
        if (0) { // Set 1 for BR24
            f = wxFindFirstFile(_T("C:\\Builds\\OCPN\\OpenCPN\\build\\plugins\\BR24radar_pi\\Debug\\*.*"), wxFILE);
            while (!f.empty())
            {
                wxFileName::SplitPath(f, &volume, &path, &name, &ext);
                destf = Dest;
                destf << name << _T(".") << ext;
                x = wxCopyFile(f, destf, true);
                f = wxFindNextFile();
            }
            mess << _T(" and ") << name;
        }
        mess << _T(" copied to ") << Dest;
        //wxMessageBox(mess, _T("Debug - Plugin info"));

    m_plugin_location = _T("C:\\Builds\\OCPN\\OpenCPN\\build\\plugins\\Debug_pi\\");
#endif
    #else
        m_plugin_location = plugin_dir;
    #endif

    wxString msg(_T("PlugInManager searching for PlugIns in location "));
    msg += m_plugin_location;
    wxLogMessage(msg);
As you can see is BR24radar_pi not included for the moment. I've to uncomment corresponding lines.

The base line is:
Code:
m_plugin_location = _T("C:\\Builds\\OCPN\\OpenCPN\\build\\plugins\\Debug_pi\\");
If you like to copy dll files yourself this is all you need.

Please read the wiki as well: https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...ugins_to_debug

Good luck
Håkan
