Re: Navico radar plugin v2.0 released

@pbmaise
Re question #6 cable length. If 10m gets you inside the boat you can probably extend it yourself using good high quality ethernet wire and some extra single wires. As long as you can do RJ45 connections. You may want the cable shielded however so the longer b&g or simrad cable would work

Re: Navico radar plugin v2.0 released

Question #5
http://store.navico.com/Products/000-10438-001
It is exactly as it states
Straight RJ45 to yellow five pin female for gofree or RI10 standard round yellow male 5 pin network cable connection.

I believe this connector is what I wanted to find to adapt the B&G RI10 Network cable through this cable adapter directly to my computer ethernet port.

Re: Navico radar plugin v2.0 released

Heinrich

Sorry, The files on my Dropbox was outdated but here are new ones:
Latest OCPN Beta where BR24Radar_pi is included, although with small adjustments in Dashboard to fit my dated instruments. It would work for all:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/....221_setup.exe
And here's BR24Radar_pi only if you have your own OCPN Beta 2.5.xxx
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...-2.3-win32.exe

Happy testing and please report your experiences.
Thanks

Thank you,
seems I invited more problems than I thought. Beside sailing this will keep me busy ..

Newest Intel graphics driver for this small all-Intel i7 machine (WIN10pro) and oCPN in oGL mode, but BR24 complaining no oGL available ? In GE oGL seems to work, at least nothing complains.

naturally no radar found, but position, magnetic heading and WMM present.
no difference when Zeus² is on

Ethernet switch D-link DGS-1008A indicates PC fine (green led flashing), MFD & connection box connection show undocumented amber led, very fast flashing. As the switch is between MFD and the radar connection box and these two communicate properly, the switch might be ok.

connecting to wired Ethernet my WIFI router is "disconnected", physically windows sees it, tells me it works fine and is connected to the Internet, shows the traffic but there is a missing link, browsers tell: NO INTERNET!? deactivating in the network setting has same effect.

3 months and some test versions ago, without Ethernet switch, PC connected instead GoFree, Zeus switched on (openCPN could not switch on the G4), there was a copy of the Radar picture on openCPN already. Did not try the simultaneous Internet then. Mysterious

I'll keep you updated!

Re: Navico radar plugin v2.0 released

blubaju..
To test if your PC is ready for BR24Radar_pi you may try the emulator function in the BR24 plugin. You need no radar connection. Go to tools>option>plugins>BR24radar_pi>preferences. Check "Emulator mode", OK back to OCPN. When heading and ship position is there you should be able to turn the "radar" on and see a simulated radar picture. If so your OpenGL is fine or else there is a PC problem.

Hi Håkan,

Thank you, did as you suggested, oCPN does not detect oGL, in the opencpn.ini OpenGL=0 SoftwareGL=0 (changed manually but was reset by openCPN again)

I uninstalled and reinstalled older Versions of oCPN and BR24, no change, no openGL on my system, I directly downloaded and installed the newest Intel drivers directly from Intel and did same, no openGL for openCPN.

I found an openGL test, no idea if this is something good or not:
Geeks3D -- GpuTest PixMark JuliaFP64 v0.7.0.0, seems a little old, 2014 but:

Re: Navico radar plugin v2.0 released

This:
OpenGL - GL_VERSION 4.0.0 - Build 10.18.10.4425
OpenGL - GL_RENDERER Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
Would be very good. It's better than my system.

And if you're sure to have "Use accelerated graphics (OpenGL)" box selected in Tools>Options>Display>Advanced I really don't know why your OpenGL is not working on that PC.
The other way to exclude OpenGL from OCPN is to start it with a command like: "opencpn.exe noopengl" but I suppose you're using the normal icon?

What is in opencpn.log, the OpenGL->..... part?
Like this:
17:27:49: OpenGL-> Renderer String: Intel(R) HD Graphics 3000
17:27:49: OpenGL-> Version reported: 3.1.0 - Build 9.17.10.4229
17:27:49: OpenGL-> Detected Intel renderer, disabling stencil buffer
17:27:49: OpenGL-> Texture rectangle format: de1

And if OpenGL is enabled and is not working that driver might be blacklisted in OpenCPN.

Get the "OpenGL Extensions Viewer" to check your system for OpenGL capabilities:

Mea culpa! You got it! http://www.cruisersforum.com/images/...s/banghead.gif

Maybe that shoud be by default ON! So people like me....

Now I am looking why on the Ethernetport is no incoming traffic. The connections seem correct, Zeus communicates with G4 radome through the Ethernetswitch.

Is there a list for the network adapter settings somewhere? Because these combinations go in the millions, but I keep on reading ;-)

Thank you for the initial help!

Hubert,
you will not find a blacklist of drivers in the code of OpenCPN. It will be difficult also to maintain such a database. There are only a few log messages in the OpenCPN log if a driver has a problem. For example in glChartCanvas.cpp line 821:

Quote:
wxLogMessage( _T("OpenGL-> Detected Windows Intel renderer, disabling Vertexbuffer Objects") );
There is however a blacklist for known not working plugins in chart1.cpp line 6454:

Quote:
g_pi_manager->ShowDeferredBlacklistMessages(); // Give the use dialog on any blacklisted PlugIns
In these days it should be better to make a whitelist of working plugins to encourage plugin developers to update their plugins.

A very direct and open review of a SIMRAD installation after 11.000nm.
In this context especially the radar part.

blubaju..
Nice you've found it.
re: "Now I am looking why on the Ethernetport is no incoming traffic. The connections seem correct"
What's your problem here? Windows message use to be "Unknown network - no Internet" or similar, but that's good health for the radar.
First step use to be to connect the radar Ethernet cable to the PC only and start BR24Radar_pi. He use to be very good finding the radar. Did you remember to turn "Emulator" off? In Win10 the firewall use to ask but W7/8 can be more tricky?
Did you read the connection tips: https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...e_installation

Thanks for all your help.

Problem was quite easily solved, deactivated all Wifi (1) and Ethernetports (2), then activating one Ethernet and the radar picture was there faster than I could look for ;-)

Surprisingly switching WIFI back on did not change anything!

All systems working fine in Windows10-style, looking forward to use all this in an Android environment (Chromebook-style or waterproof tablet with BT keyboard or PC under REMIX)

Again, thanks for all the helpful hints!

P.S. one openCPN add-in problem will maybe never solved: GE2KAP needs DX, BR24 openGL. Can I run 2 instances of openCPN same time one for creating kap-files and one for actual navigation with openCPN?

Re: Navico radar plugin v2.0 released

On the github issue pages (https://github.com/canboat/BR24radar...ment-303904773) there was a discussion which got out of the scope of the issue itself and should belong here.
I replicate part of it.

douwefokkema commented 15 hours ago

I have put a beta version of the setup package for BR24radar_pi with ARPA on https://www.dropbox.com/s/a6spxpctqx...win32.exe?dl=0. This version is stable as far as I know. It is not released as it has not yet been tested in real life conditions at sea.
To use MARPA: click right mouse, then click "Set Arpa Target" close to or on the blob that you want to follow. A MARPA target will be created that will be handled by OCPN just like a AIS target (you can set alarm).
To use ARPA: set a guard zone and tick the ARPA button. Any blob entering the zone will become an ARPA target automatically and again be handled by OCPN.
But be aware, (M)ARPA requires a fast heading update, Preferably 10Hz and via the radar interface. Without a good heading target tracking get unreliable.
