Re: Modifying ship representation in OpenCPN

Yes, Gerhard, we do have some communication problems, but are generally on the same wavelength.

egon, for learning purposes the tracker is in the upper left corner. main web page.

If you register and login you will learn a lot about how opencpn gets developed.

There may be some clever way for you to circumvent the EDCIS standards (as Gerhard points out) so it would not be futile to put the request up on tracker. (However do not expect the programmers to break up their effort to comply with most aspects of ECDIS. Which was one goal.)

I do think your request has some merit, and there may be some way of signalling that a ship is also a "Friend" or "Follower" -- Perhaps put it in the YELLOW bubble?
OR add "Friend" below the icon?

Re: Modifying ship representation in OpenCPN

egon...

Start here:

file: ais.cpp. line 866

Code:
static void AISDrawTarget( AIS_Target_Data *td, ocpnDC& dc ){
}
Changing color based on MMSI should be easy, for instance.

Good Luck
Dave

Re: Modifying ship representation in OpenCPN

Thanks for the input.
I have submitted the feature request as you suggested.

Thanks also for spotting AISDrawTarget() for me.
I think I will insert an "if (is_file (UserIcons/MMSI.png))" right where the code says "// Draw icon as two halves".

+++, Egon
