Re: Mix 2 tablet, no Own Ship iimage

Do I just have geolocation r6 just saved somewhere? That's a good question. I have it saved in downloads. It also has a config file, if that makes a difference.

I have been looking for a place to put geolocation r6 so it will start up every time but with win8 I am on unfamiliar ground.

Forget about IP address for now. Do you have that tool running at all?

in your command window:

Quote:
ping roger -4
should return your IP address

Quote:
ping 127.0.0.1
should return a normal response if the loopback address is working.

Haven't used geolocationtcp - does it require location sharing to be on in Win 8? (under the privacy settings tab - just don't know if it reaches under that or requires sharing to be on).

Let's just say it is not running. It is saved in downloads and that is not working. Any suggestions on where to place it so it gets recognized?

Re: Mix 2 tablet, no Own Ship iimage

if you want it to run every time you boot the machine, copy/move the file, or create a shortcut to it in:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

or in

C:\Users\(USERNAME)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Wind ows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

Both locations are hidden folders, you'll have to unhide them to do this (ain't Win 8 fun?).

Or, if you just want to test, double-click on it in the explorer window and it should launch. You can always check by launching TaskManager (Ctrl-Alt-Del and then select TaskManager). It should show up on the Processes tab if it is running.

Double click it to run it...every time you boot your tablet.

Install Classic Shell to restore your Start menu. Then you'll be able to easily find the Startup menu.

Re: Mix 2 tablet, no Own Ship iimage

Success! Well, sort of. I double/right clicked on the geo exe file and opened it and out flooded a stream of NMEA talk. Own Ship icon exactly where it is supposed to be, exactly.

Not a very elegant solution given I would have to double click every time the tablet went to sleep.

I will have to continue following the good suggestions I have received so it will start up every time.

I don't see the Classic Shell conversion that was mentioned.

I certainly appreciate the assistance.
Cheers, Roger

Should only have to restart the program after a tablet reboot. After sleep should start working along with everything else.

GIYF: Classic Shell - Start menu and other Windows enhancements

Classic Shell may be the most important piece of software that you install on any Windows 8 computer that runs legacy Windows programs (like OpenCPN). It is an absolute must, IMHO.

Rhythmdoctor

Thanks for the tip about Classic Shell. I will take a look.

I am getting a north latitude position twice, and no longitude in the information bar on the bottom of the screen. The physical location of the ship icon is correct on the chart. Is this something you also worked through?

I hide the info bar. I use the Dashboard plugin to display that stuff.
