Microsoft Visual Studio Express 2013

Do we dare download and install MSVS Express 2013?
Or should we be considering another compiler?
Or should we just stick with what works sort of/doesn't work? MSVC++2010
Sean had suggested an alternative minwin?
-Just asking.

Re: Microsoft Visual Studio Express 2013

Rick...
To avoid problems, you must use VS 2010 now, especially when building the setup package or using any prebuilt plugins - they all must use the same runtime libraries, which, in our case, are those from MSVC 2010.
Also note, that if you build using VS2013, your product will not run on XP at all (not sure about Vista)

So, please all builders. Dig VS2013 down. Very deep, since I'm so fond of my XP. Both at home at not less in the boat.
Thanks/Håkan

Hakan,

you are aware that from April 2014 on there won't be any update (including security) at all for XP?
If you have a system that lives on an island (not in the geo-sense but Internet wise) you might get away, but if not think about alternatives.

We have an XP as well still around for some programs that work with real RS232 ports but it is a dino. I hope it will not break very soon

Re: Microsoft Visual Studio Express 2013

Hubert..
Thanks for the info. Let's see what happens at home but in the boat I think I'll try to live as long as possible with XP and OCPN. Not less due to the RS232 issue. The Pactor modem seems to be happiest when connected with a direct port.
