Thomas..

Thanks for the tips but the space between Program Files has to be there as it is the name of the directory to all my programs. It was the way the GE2KAP program enterpreted this space which was wrong. Having read 'Program' it found a space and enterpreted this as the end of the file name and ended up nowhere. No editing of the PATH file can alter this.

I will check again the Ruby path entries as adviced.

Thanks again

Tore

Tore,

once again: that is basic computer knowledge.
A command: CD PROGRAM FILES in DOS terminal will not work.
However a command CD "PROGRAM FILES" will work.

Please, please, take some lessons.

CarCode..

Could'nt resist wagging your teutonic tongue huh?
Good idea to learn the facts before you speak...
The error was contained in the ooRexx script of GE2KAP which made a wrong interpretation of my directory <Program files>. This script is not provided by me.

If you claim to be that 'professional' you'd better leave this formum to us mere mortals.

Get a life!!

Thomas..

Did what you recommended in your #60 but now the result is even more confusing as
the error message is now for some reason looking for an OpenCPN file?
No .kap file was generated.

Thomas..

I actually managed to create a 'Clemente.kap' file. I normally use SeaClearII as a quick way to check .kap files but in this case it will not load. It is NOT working in OpenCPN either.

Here is the header print:

Tore
you have not done the checks I asked you to do.
Go back and read #48
You have the same problem as Happy Seagull had in #56.

Thomas..

I did EXACTLY as you suggested but the checks were not positive.
I re-downloaded and installed Imagemagic and as you see,all is right in the PATH and PATHEXT. Otherwise see my comments #65.

If I am taking up too much of your time I shall hold fire until later.

Thomas...

I have downloaded and installed BOTH as per your advice and they are showing correctly in the PATH's.

Better give it a rest...

My dear Tore,

before you insult people you should have a look into the ooRexx script. You will find a line with: comm._currdir = directory()
That is always your current working directory no matter what the name is.

There was a problem with spaces, not in the different path names, the operating systems handles that, but in the chart-picture-file names.
As long as I did this for myself on linux I did not bother, I just used "detox" and renamed everything. Detox takes care of spaces and "funny" characters.
I realized, that Tore's latest attempt included a picture name, with umpteen spaces, and that map2kap did not handled that very well.Click image for larger version

In this scenario, i write "m" hit TAB, then space-bar, write "h", hit TAB and the correct filename, in double quotes appear, then I fill out he rest of the arguments manually. As you can see Win takes care of spaces and the " and do the right thing. Also this new version of map2kap tries to do some basic controls. The created kap is visible in the background.

This surely made me appreciate just how much work "multi-platform" is for Dave.

I just used map2kap, and I am very happy with it. Turns out that there is a program that will turn longitude and latitude into a pretty high resoltion stitched composite.

1.) go to Stitch and download this guys clever python script. Careful not to zoom in too much. My system hanged after downloading over 2000 tiles.
2.) Convert the resulting jpg into a color mapped tiff per the map2kap instructions.
3.) run map2kap and drop it in the correct OpenCPN folder. Results are linked below:

I realize it is missing most important data, like soundings and *reefs*, but we are going to rely on the Admiralty maps supplied by Moornings, and my goal was to simply log GPS coordinates as we go. I am taking my PC and running OpenCPN with a BU-353.

Thomas..

Re your # 71
Now I understand..the spaces were NOT in the file directory, nor in MY file name of the Ozi map,but in the invisible header of the map itself which only YOUR program could detect.

You live and learn (all the time) a pity some people do not realize that.

Thanks for the clarification Thomas and I look forward to try your new version.

Tore
