Manual Entry for GPS Position

Is there a way to enter your GPS position manually? If not, should there be?

In what context? In a GPS receiver, in some navigation software, in your pocket notebook?

Without more details the question really makes no sense.

Perhaps in the context of the forum he posted in, OpenCpn.

I don't know the answer to the question though.

Okay, for those that didn't know the subject being OpenCPN (hence the forum ), I was referring to the OpenCPN software. Is there a way to manually enter your coordinates and if not, would that be something to useful to add?

Obviously but depending on the make and model of your GPS, the answer is yes.

One way is to hit the Mark button which will input the position of the place where you hit the button.

Another way is manually enter the coordinates of waypoints :-
So that waypoint 1 has xyz, 2 has xya, 3 has xyb and so on.

On the majority of new models one also has a 'Man Over Board' button,
which when hit registers a position believed to be near the incident.

There is a request for a "go to" feature where you can add gps coordinates freely. For the time being, this can be done by dropping a mark and specifying its coordinates.

Let me re-phrase it. I have a GPS unit which will not communicate with OpenCPN on my laptop, but I still have my gps coordinates. Can I enter those coordinates into the OpenCPN software by keyboard or mouse. This would be helpful until I go have a gps unit that will connect to a computer.

I guess I just discovered the answer myself. You can move the mouse cursor until the coordinates at the bottom of the chart match your gps coordinates, then right click and select "move boat here".
Thanks everyone.
