Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

Gerhard,
This is a good idea, I click on "Help" and nothing happens....
C:\ProgramData\opencpn\plugins\logbook does not have a help file...
I saw the Help file somewhere while exploring...and brought it up several days ago. Now I can't find it. Where is it?

I see all the nice features Konni built in. I am just trying to get my head around how it works and what a "layout" is.

Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

Ok found it again under
C:\Data-Dart\Up-Soft\Navigation\o-plugin\LogbookKonni-1.2\data\help.html

Also found under
https://github.com/delatbabel/Logboo...ee/master/data

But it does not seem to be under github.com/Konnibe

There is also a note to post questions on the forum under this thread
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...-68945-40.html
and a reference to YouTube LogbookKonni Search

Rick,

You need both the Layout and Other zip files.
You can pick both up here:
https://github.com/ptulp/LogbookKonni-1.2/releases
They should work (I Hope)

The help file is in the Other zip file.

Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

I have been testing the logbook for windows on a couple of VDR files. I wiil test on live data during the weekend. I have a couple of comment based on the test;

I would like to have the latest entry on the top of the list. You have to scroll down if you haven't been watching it for some time with automatic entries. It will be a lot easier if the latest is in the top of the list.(not in the printed version)

I would like to see true wind direction and true wind speed in the meteo tab

I find it a little difficult to use the watch scheduling in the crew-list. I would like to be able to create a watch schedule with different watch length during the day

The time calculation in the current version of the watch scheduling is not correct, and the name of the person on watch is not transferred to the logbook.

Best regards, Lars

Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

Peter thanks for the link to help and layout files. I had found those. For some reason the help button does not connect to the file.

If anything is correctly installed you click onto the question mark in the upper right corner (see picture red circle) and the help starts with your local browser.
That is not state of the art especially with Mac OS X but it works.
Also the Logbook itself is not state of the art anymore. It needs a complete rework. See the other schreenshot how a logbook should look like nowadays.

In the mean time you can either rebuild the zip files from the repository (look at the makezip.sh command), or use the ones from konni but they are out of date.

Pavel -- are we all good to go with a release now? Or do you want to update the translations data again?

I'm not sure we can achieve that exact look and feel within the limitations of wxWindows. The problem with cross platform development tools is that you get the lowest common denominator of features available on the various platforms. So the same code has to work the same way on Windows, MacOS and Linux -- but not all features such as integrated help, fonts, and fancy colouring are available on all platforms.

Hi Lars,

Can you add these findings to flyspray please? Some screenshots would be nice as well. I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "the time calculation ... is not correct".

Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

As mentioned I have been using this logbook for a couple of years. It is the only logbook I use, and I live aboard.

The main problem I found was that on an OpenCPN crash, I lost a lot od logbook data. Konni added a 'right click --> shutdown logboog' feature, so I have been using it after every entry.... I believe you are fixing this with an immediate save after every entry.

I am also somewhat annoyed by having to scroll at the end of the list when I want to make a new entry. Not sure if I'd rather have the entry on the top, perhaps having the logbook default to the last entry would be better.

Sometimes I like to go over the various lines and add/ modify my comments, but it is quite possible to make a comment on the wrong line because one cannot see the first column, being able to 'freeze' the first column would be wonderful!!

Hi Stefano,

Yes correct -- we have already added an auto save feature after each entry. On my recent southern ocean voyage I also lost a lot of logbook entries so this was one thing I needed to have fixed.

I have been thinking about the entry ordering -- I prefer to have the latest entry at the bottom because then it looks more like a normal logbook but having the logbook default to the last entry sounds like a good idea.

I will see what I can do about freezing the first column.

There is the wonderfull way using #ifdef for any OS if needed. It has been used already. Look at the code please.

Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

Why doesn't the Help button open the html file?
Maybe we need
If Win Open html?

Re: Logbook Konni for OpenCPN

Del,

Maybe we should replace the Layout and Other zips with only one zip file that contains both the layouts and the helpfiles.
I just added some more updates for the helpfiles and Layouts.

I think it should all work now.

Rick,
this is the code in LogbookDialog.cpp:
Code:
void LogbookDialog::startBrowser(wxString filename)
{
    if(!wxLaunchDefaultBrowser(wxString(_T("file://"))+filename))
    {
        if(wxGetOsVersion() & wxOS_WINDOWS) // maybe old XP-Versions needs it
        {
            filename.Replace(wxT("/"),wxT("\\"));
            wxFileType *filetype = wxTheMimeTypesManager->GetFileTypeFromExtension(_T("html"));
            wxString cmd = filetype->GetOpenCommand(wxT("file:///")+filename);

            if(cmd.Contains(wxT("IEXPLORE")))
                wxExecute(wxString::Format(wxT("explorer.exe ")+filename));
            else
                wxExecute(cmd);
        }
    }
}
It works with Mac OS X but maybe not with any Windows version.
I'm not using Windows so I can't help.
