Last version of WatchDog .

Hello RGleason or Jongouh or SeandePagnier or ... ???

I just uploaded the version of WatchDog present on the opencpn.org website. It carries the name: watchdog_pi-1.9042-win32.exe

But while searching through my PC, I observe that I have two other versions:
- watchdog_pi-1.9.046-win32.exe which is dated 12/06/2016
- watchdog_pi-1.9.047-win32.exe which is dated 20/06/2016

Right here :
https://github.com/seandepagnier/watchdog_pi/releases
I note that there is a version 1.9054.

Can anyone tell me what is happening with this plugin? Why is the official version so old?

Best regards. Gilletarom.

Re: Last version of WatchDog .

The release is old. The git version is 2.0

Eventually it should be released again, but we have no schedule for this. I wanted to do more testing and maybe add more features.

Well it's nice to know the latest version on Github is 2.whatever but it doesn't help ordinary users like us. Why don't these developments make their way into the general OCPN downloads in a more timely fashion?

Because it never gets updated. I've asked bdbcat about the process but never heard back. Actually I asked him how to get this plugin updated.

Please, put the 2.0 version in your guit-hub, almost for windows. So I can prepare new page for this plugin in my french tutorial

Thank by advance.

Gilletarom.

hoolie...

re:

Answer:
Because the two or three developers active at the moment generally work against hard priority lists. Watchdog_pi is pretty far down the list, determined simply by observing the web download stats.

It may sound simple: build the plugin, and upload to the site. But it is not. Can easily take a day's work to validate even the most basic functionality, and that is a day taken away from higher priority tasks. And that is only on one platform. We currently support 5 distinct platforms....

And now, back to work...

Thanks
Dave

Yes, of course, it's understood the time and effort of releasing a properly validated new version or plug-in is considerable - and much appreciated!!!

Perhaps the point is, there's a number of in-development plug-ins (like Watchdog) that would benefit by being updated from git to the beta list. Hopefully they'll end up more robust and usable as more people can be involved in testing and evaluation.

Re: Last version of WatchDog .

Hoolie,
Can we enlist you as a PI tester for Plugins? Mike Rossiter (Rasbats) has volunteered and has tried to give the PI developer area some form, and we need guys on all platforms doing it. https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/do...manual:plugins

Its Sean's PI, and Jon has added some messaging from Odraw. So there are several levels of testing.

Re: Last version of WatchDog .

Volunteering for testing. I can test on Win10 using Microsoft Surface, Raspberry Pi, Tinkerboard using Armbian (Ubuntu), and Android. More availability after 12 July. Both underway and static AIS reception testing. Spent years at a major company capturing bugs, but my coding is obsolete, so now I only can capture bugs and what conditions trigger them.

waterman,

Great to hear from you. Please post any issues or ideas. For now, I hope you can build from source.

2.0 built on Tinkerboard with Armbian. Nice! I should have installed it for my last trip. RPi next. Unfortunately would need apk to install on Android and install pkg for windows.

Re: Last version of WatchDog .

Sean,

On Armbian - Tested NMEA data, Deadman, and Anchor. Watchdog does not honor alarm audio selection - always rings 1bell wav. Realarm function does not work on deadman (didn't test elsewhere). You have to ack Deadman alarm to get it to realarm (kind of defeats the purpose) Deadman timer get trashed and rings early if nmea alarm triggers. Nmea data alarm timer then jumps to over 187000 seconds. ( Number is not consistant - perhaps related to alarm preset?) Reset button does not reset NMEA timer.

On Rpi - Alarms never are displayed or ring. Always plays 1bell if test is pushed. Again, getting some wacky timer displays if both NMEA and deadman are triggered.

Counters/timers appear to be getting trashed somewhere.

Cheers,

Dave

Re: Last version of WatchDog .

My apology - I should have sent this as a pm. Question - Since the problem happened in both the Raspian and Ubunti builds, is it possible that there is a library issue?
