Kerosene/Paraffin or Diesel

Does anybody have firsthand knowledge for using Diesel instead of Kerosene on a Kerosene/Paraffin stove. I would like to use Diesel on my Taylor stove if possible.

Re: Kerosene/Paraffin or Diesel

Tried what I think is called #1 diesel in a kerosene stove with Primus burners. Had to throw the burners away as they became hopelessly clogged. Fortunately the burners were available and not too expensive at that time. Now, wouldn't take any chances are burners are hard to source and quite expensive. #1 diesel is the more highly refined diesel not the usual #2 that you get at the pump. Switched to Mineral Spirits which worked fine in the stove but not so well in Aladdin or Den Haan trawler lamps. Had to switch to lamp oil to keep the lamps from flaring up.

There are supposedly diesel burners for the Taylor Cabin Heater. At least people are claiming they are burning diesel in their heaters. Never heard of anyone using a diesel burner in a cooking stove. Talking Primus type burners not a true diesel stove.

Re: Kerosene/Paraffin or Diesel

I have been using a kerosene stove for 18 years now. After massive problems with the burners they released a new Hansa burner and after installing these units I am having no problems at all. They are the best thing since sliced bread. I do NOT get any soot now. In Australia kerosene is AUD $4.25 and diesel is AUD $1.29 per litre. They both are hydrocarbons. I hope diesel would work.

Thanks

Re: Kerosene/Paraffin or Diesel

I know the MSR xgk can burn diesel as well as kero, but from what I have heard it is still pretty nasty.

The taylor diesel burning units i have seen use a more conventional drip pot style system.
