Re: Is there an option to configure "Chart Quilting" ?

Did-g,

in Europe most users of OpenCPN are forced to use "home brewed charts" because of the limited number of providers. The exact number is 1 (NV) and some regions are not covered at all. The way of Quilting for decomposed large scans is not working as I would expect. If we start again with the initial situation (Screenshot 41) and pan upwards (Screenshot 42) OpenCPN shows Overzoom and not the available KAPs for the actual scale. This behavior is annoying during sailing because you have to zoom in and out to have the correct KAPs on the screen.

Re: Is there an option to configure "Chart Quilting" ?

Martin,

as your charts are from Netherelands, perhaps there is another solution:

Have a look at Aart's manual at Nautin and there under oeSENC.

These are actual Vector charts expecially composed and licensed for OpenCPN.
Expect them to be available during next week .

Thank you Hubert,

I tried these charts and they contain no information about depths for some regions (Screenshot 45).

Re: Is there an option to configure "Chart Quilting" ?

Dave,

I would be very happy about an option that matches the KAPs to fit the actual scaling.

Martin,

have a look at the screenshot. That's what the oeSENC charts will show. With soundings.

Hi,
As a workaround when you're in screenshot 41 situation can you try to to click on the undisplayed chart? It should be the first or one of the first dark blue rectangle in piano just before the light blue ones. Should be less annoying than zoom in/out and panning should work.

did-g,

Yes you're right, checking the hidden charts is a possible workaround but like a shell game with KAPs.

Re: Is there an option to configure "Chart Quilting" ?

MORE Possible work-arounds:

1} hold ALT key while zooming. This will slow it down.

2} turn quilting off (shortcut "q") and then use "Shift to Larger/Smaller Scale" buttons in toolbar (or "F7/ F8") to chamge charts

3} Right-click nuisance charts on chart bar (when quilting On) and choose "HideThisChart"

4} or for Experimenters, make a copy of your kap. Edit the Scale in a Hex editor or Notepad++

Re: Is there an option to configure "Chart Quilting" ?

Thank you HappySeagull for your tips,

but during sailing OpenCPN runs as a chart plotter on a mounted small 10 inch Win10 tablet and no keyboard is connected. So it's difficult for me to use shortcuts.

Re: Is there an option to configure "Chart Quilting" ?

Ah. a tablet. I didn't know.....but, you can still turn quilting off? and hide charts?

as an aside, it seems to me There might be a way to get a keyboard onscreen. I recall a plugin from Nohal that runs command tools...

Re: Is there an option to configure "Chart Quilting" ?

HappySeagull,

quilting off is not a real option (each time you leave the actual chart you are forced to select the next one and for critical situations a no go) and accessing the onscreen keyboard is not possible in full screen mode.

Dave,

has this problem a chance to be considered?

Martin...

This issue is on the list. We'll get to it soon. Other higher priority issues intervene.

Are you headed out for a cruise shortly?

Thanks
Dave

Martin,

the oeSENC files for NL/BE/DE are available now.
See the thread here or/and visit o-charts.org
