Re: Integration with QtVlm - Data files and Import/Export

Nope, I login, start downloading, then select c:\programdata\QtVlm\Maps and it does not place the downloaded map there. It just exits.

Now I check that directory and there are two sub-dir gis and gshhs!
Close qtVlm and open then message to select map folder popup and select
C:\ProgramData\QtVlm\Maps\gshhs now and it still asks the question download, cancel, choose a folder.

This is very confusing. Now if I select cancel, it asks me to log in again.

After messing around with downloading Grib Files and locating the boat. Now I try selecting C:\ProgramData\QtVlm\Maps\ and it now presents the world map!

Now I start it again and the map is there, but I have to log in again.

I do not believe this process is entirely intuitive to people not used to having difficulty with installs. Isn't it possible during the prompt for the map directory, to provide the user with a little more quidence, such as don't use c:/program files/qtvlm/maps because there will be permission problems, use a data directory that you create under My documents or something like that?

Re: Integration with QtVlm - Data files and Import/Export

Or even better, why not put the map under c:/programdata/vtqvm/maps? Just have a prompt with that path and a Yes/No? for users to direct to their own location.

Re: Integration with QtVlm - Data files and Import/Export

This is still asking me where the maps are located. It still does not seem to be able to save where they have been downloaded. C:\ProgramData\QtVlm\Maps

And it is asking me to log in all the time.

Also when I download grib files, it does not seem to remember where I am storing those either.

Sorry if I sound like I am complaining....

Re: Integration with QtVlm - Data files and Import/Export

It also is not remembering which polar is loaded.

I installed this program to c:/programfiles/qtvlm/ as suggested!

Re: Integration with QtVlm - Data files and Import/Export

Despite my comments above, after working with it more, this program is getting even better! Thank you Maitai

- Not remembering which polar
- Not remembering position of boat
- Not remembering POI's
- Not remembering where grib is stored.
- Not remembering last position of the chart/map screen window.
Its 64 bits!

Re: Integration with QtVlm - Data files and Import/Export

Not remembering you mean that settings and such are not saved?

If this is the case this is again because you don't have write access to the qtVlm folder. We are working on this and will come up with a patch soon

Re: Integration with QtVlm - Data files and Import/Export

Phillippe..

I installed qtVlm in this path: c:/installed programs/qtVlm/

I installed ALL my bsb/kap maps here: C:/installed programs/qtVlm/maps/
Could I not just select ONE map from my normal directory without placing
them all in the qtVlm/maps/ directory?

All I get on the screen is a beige square when installing a map?

Yes

Perhaps move the folders that require write backs, to c:/programdata/qtvlm/<whatever directory> similar to "maps"

Thus the install program would be setup to do this...so everyone does not get these problems....

Re: Integration with QtVlm - Data files and Import/Export

We will adress that. For the time being install qtVlm in a regular folder, such as "my documents" or such. Program Files is highly monitored by windows and although you can install, you cannot write after that. There is a logic there I must admit. We are working on that problem, so stay tuned

Re: Integration with QtVlm - Data files and Import/Export

maitai..

Yes,managed to load the Brazilian and also the NOAA charts, but the default display zoom is
wrong and you need to zoom in quite a lot to obtain the original scale. Is there not a way to load the original/correct scale as a default?

As all the rest of the world uses non-polynominal headers,I hope they will also be loadable soon.

Thanks for the upgrade..

Re: Integration with QtVlm - Data files and Import/Export

Dear Maitai,
I reinstalled the program in a data-directory, it worked ok and saved
-boat location
-chart location and scale
It did not appear to save poi or routing.

Also the install logic for downloading and installing charts is convoluted and not properly sequential, in my opinion. You should try it yourself. Too many prompts with selections that don't make sense.
  • First ask user to log in.
  • Then ask the user for path to maps, suggesting c:/programdata/qtvlm/maps .
  • Confirm the path exists and is acceptable and not permission protected.
  • Download the chart showing the time bar.
  • Save download file to the path.
  • Save the Path in the program, so no second prompt needed.
  • Prompt user that map has been saved to path....
  • Open qtVlm.

Re: Integration with QtVlm - Data files and Import/Export

Agreed.

We have decided to revert to the previous method for installing qtVlm for windows. See here: http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post1046219

That will give us the time to have a big thought and come up with a better, tested solution for the installator.

Re: Integration with QtVlm - Data files and Import/Export

Maitai, sorry if I was too insistent. The bullet list above was a suggested sequence to simplify the install process so that users would not always end up at the same prompt after logging in and selecting the map path...capich?

yes no pb at all, especially since you are right

We will come up with a better solution, and as a bonus if you want you will be the first one to test it

OK....works like a charm after accounted created on Sourceforge. Early testing shows the UI works well on Ubuntu 12.x

Best regards
