isn't it roughly the same on every OS? Have you tried this?

If it doesn't work like this on a Mac, it'd be good to know.

Re: Install CM93 on a Mac using OpenCPN

This seems to tell me, what to do once I have installed the charts on my computer. What I need to know is how to get them there and on OpenCPN. I had them on and running one time but it went sideways and would not work again. I could never get open cpn to work. I was told it was because I had installed it once and that I would have to uninstall it. I tried to do that and it was a nightmare. I never got it working again. For other reasons I had to install a new hard drive so I decided to try again. I think I can load the charts onto my hard drive, but I can't get OpenCPN to open them. It shows CM93 when I click
Charts, but they will not open. I think I am putting the charts in the wrong place?

Please show a log file from a session when you try to get O to open your CM93 charts.

I think those log files are long gone w/the old hard drive. I have not tried to open the new OpenCPN download. I have not loaded the CM93 charts yet.
This is a brand new operation and I want to do it right. I am not going to do anything till I know for sure I am doing it right.

Thomas, I checked my logs and there is nothing there. It is a new hard drive.

Re: Install CM93 on a Mac using OpenCPN

I just copy the cm93 folder from one place to another. Cm93 is data in this instance, for O to use. "Show" O the copied folder.. Do you know the file system of your mac well enough to copy something over and then guide O to that place?

If you have the cm93 on a cd or usb stick, copy the cm93 folder to the location suggested in the help link "the users home directory" or anyplace you understand . Perhaps where you are wont to keep pictures will do for now.
I don't get the "install" reference. It worries me, as being unnecessarily complicated and boggling in this instance. "Install" is roughly what you are doing when Opencpn finds them but "LOAD" is a better way to look at it for Data, I think.

I'm of the opinion that Apple is a bigger monkey to wrangle than widows when you get outside it's comfort zone (Itunes being it,as far as I can tell ), but I have managed to move data back and forth, and then look at it on an apple machine.

installing CM93 on Mac is the same as on Windows and Linux for that matter. Ive done quite a few installs of this, put whole CM93 folder into the root or wherever U like, open O, search folder, add, build database, done.

Re: Install CM93 on a Mac using OpenCPN

I found installing OpenCPN and CM93 charts on the Mac OS to be trivial. Note there is really no concept of install/uninstall on a Mac. I have several OpenCPN versions on the Mac, all happily living together.

Don't get complicated with the Mac. Move OpenCPN to the regular Applications folder. Put the CM93 charts in one of your own folders.

OpenCPN on the Mac is nice. It's a little buggy, hangs and crashes a bit too much, but works well enough.
