Re: Increase "Own Vessel" render update time

I think the viewport move is only done once per second. I will double check the source code to be sure.

FWIW, there is a lot more happening that just redrawing the ship icon. In fact the ship icon usually doesn’t move on the screen. Most people want the ownship icon to remain stationery and let the chart move under the ship.

Re: Increase "Own Vessel" render update time

I looked at the code this evening. The viewport update is done once per second via a hard coded timer. I built a test version that updates the viewport every 100mS and fed it a fast NMEA stream using UDP. The ship moves very fast (10 times per second) but the chart thread is maxed out at 100%. You would not want this mode for a production system.

Thank you very much for the effort!

Duly noted. Can you point me to this timer (in the source)? It could be useful to experiment with this in my case... (for off-board usage, that is).

Re: Increase "Own Vessel" render update time

I don’t see the point in making the ship jump fast in tiny steps. It’s a major undertaking to do what you want in a useful way. Changing the timer also speeds up sending data to plugins which can cause a host of problems which I did not investigate. No one will have much interest in fixing such issues.
