How to Have Currents File ?

Hi,

Where can i find the currents file for France ?
When I click the Current button, it's available only for US and England.
Which file contains the currents infos ?

Thanks

Sorry for "hijacking" the thread, but I have almost the same question.

Where do the current data come from? Are they included in the harmonic files (in the TCDATA dir)?

Is there any other source (free or non-free) for currents and can they be integrated in OCPN?

MS has a very nice way to display Tides and Currants as can be seen in the attachment. Is there a way that we can have the same in openCPN?

Is that current data part of CM93 or is that some proprietary dataset in Maxsea?

The tides in opencpn are free data from xtides..

Not quite the same but you can get the same info in OpenCPN with tides enabled

I can see the Tide positions but no Currants in the openCPN and the same part of the chart as in screen dump from MS.
Have I missed something.

What you see in the screenshot is a graphical representation of the tide, not the current

Currents for the North Sea are available from the BSH Strömungen

This data is also available for download. The format is GRIB 2.
So if OCPN may be able one day to show also GRIB 2 data this might be one possible option to also have currents (which are not being included in the chart files).

AFAIK you are right.
But the problem is that zyGrib, like many other GRIB viewer, does not support GRIB 2 format. And I couldn't find any information if they plan to do so in the future.

Maybe there is one talented programmer here in the forum ...?
The formats are described in this PDF: http://www.wmo.ch/pages/prog//www/WM...RIB1-GRIB2.pdf

Bonjour, hello,

One must knowledge that the data concerning the currents and tides for France are not free access. One must pay to SHOM to be able to display them in a software. OpenCPN is free and free of charge. Nobody pays nothing Thus, it is not possible to make appear the current and the tides for France.

After, there is a knack. You can go to take files "harmonic.idx" and "harmonic" in WXTIDE47 and put instead of those which are in the folder "TCDATA" of your installation of OpenCPN.

You will see then appear the display devices display tides for France. But one must know that infos that you thus will have for the tides will not be dependable in lack of enough updating of the files of WXTIDES.

Best regards
