Re: How Do I Overlay DSC Waypoints / Track Buddy

Pavel, PjotrC
I'm back .
I realized I'm not able to apply the patch.
With "git apply --index <patchname>"
I've 4 warnings for blank leading space and
3 errors (the names of the 3 files to be patched) with error due to wrong index
Before, I used git apply without "--index"
and i had only warnings, but I realized also for the bad index.
I checked the files and indeed the patch has not beying applied.
Should you be so kind to give me some hints.
Thanks
Mauro

btw : opencpn version .4.12 ,and used the same patch version.

Re: How Do I Overlay DSC Waypoints / Track Buddy

Hi,
I tried again and now the patch is OK but there is an error:
ais.cpp
..\src\ais.cpp(1545) : error C2664: 'strncpy' : cannot convert parameter 2 from 'wxString' to 'const char *'
No user-defined-conversion operator available that can perform this conversion, or the operator cannot be called

thanks
Mauro

Try this line instead:

Code:
    strncpy(gpsg_name_str,token.mb_str(),len);

I hope not...

You should be able to "git merge" this into the current branch. Keep your dsc0412 branch, that hopefully compiled OK, update the master, make a new branch dsc0423, and merge the dsc0412. You can also just test 0412 for first results...

Re: How Do I Overlay DSC Waypoints / Track Buddy

Our lowrance 7300C HD chartplotter does this out of the box. We also have one of their handheld VHF radios with built-in GPS and DSC. So we can track the handheld in the dink on the big boat's chartplotter.

Uhmmm!
Don't forget I'm a total noob ,specially with GIT.
Problem is that I've installed a new O.S. (W7) , and re-done the procedure.
So,now I have only V.0423 and your patch for 0412

Re: How Do I Overlay DSC Waypoints / Track Buddy

Mauro...

You can just apply the 0412 patch. There were no source changes around AIS code lately. At least, it did work for me...

A standing request for recorded test data holds. Thanks in advance...

Very practical application... so you have the handheld registered under a separate MMSI in the format 98MIDxxxx, as the "craft associated with parent ship"?

Evviva!
It works.
Just 'cause I'm at home I cannot test DSC,but I've arranged a FRPOS simulator, and it's
OK.
DSC test on board (next month, hopefully).
Thanks a lot for help

Complimenti!

Your success makes me feel ashamed at all the whitespace errors in the patch (it must have been late at night then... ). So here is the clean version. I would prefer to include some improvements, but - no real feedback yet!

Can you describe your FRPOS simulator setup?

Re: How Do I Overlay DSC Waypoints / Track Buddy

The simulator is very simple.
The core is a microcontroller (AVR) programmed in Basic .
It receives NMEA sentences from a GPS (SIRF3), parses them and rebuild
an FRPOS sentence out of them., adding the Buddy-name
Now I'm working on the same with DSC sentences.
The scope (final) is to have a radio-buoy that I will use (I like fishing) when
dropping an almost surface line for sward-fish .
The transmitter and receiver works on 868 Mhz (legal in Italy without license),
the modules used are Xbee-pro , OK up to abt 10 miles; 3 or 4 is ok for me.
The baud rate will be 4800.
The Tx is Antenna-Xbee-GPS-micro , programmed to send a message per minute.
The Rx is Antenna-Xbee-USB interface-PC-GPSgate that mix the signal to the
local GPS and send it to OpenCPN via a virtualCom at 38400 baud (AIS+GPS)

I see... so for you the AIS target model is actually better than dropping a waypoint on every position report, which is more common perspective. You do not want to delete "all-but-one-waypoints" every now and then .

@witzgall...

Legal details aside, I was just wondering, how the equipment would handle polling between two identical MMSI. It is normal to have a couple of VHF units with the same MMSI on the bridge, but I never tried to poll each other. Usually they are fed with the same position, but if one is taken some miles away... looks like the software will cope, but for a third party the polling result might be a draw.

Re: How Do I Overlay DSC Waypoints / Track Buddy

I have seperate MMSI #s, just the Boat US ones, for the two radios.

Re: How Do I Overlay DSC Waypoints / Track Buddy

Was anyone able to create a working version to Overlay DSC Waypoints / Tracking Buddy. I would be very interested in a copy of the .exe. Unfortunately, I don’t have much in the way of programming skills. The last time I did any sort of programming was college Fortran and punch cards.

Thanks
Paul
