The simulator is very simple.
is a microcontroller (AVR) programmed in Basic .
It receives NMEA
sentences from a GPS
(SIRF3), parses them and rebuild
an FRPOS sentence out of them., adding the Buddy-name
Now I'm working on the same with DSC sentences.
(final) is to have a radio-buoy that I will use (I like fishing) when
dropping an almost surface line for sward-fish .
The transmitter and receiver works on 868 Mhz (legal in Italy
the modules used are Xbee-pro , OK up to abt 10 miles; 3 or 4 is ok for me.
The baud rate will be 4800.
The Tx is Antenna-Xbee-GPS-micro , programmed to send a message per minute.
The Rx is Antenna-Xbee-USB interface-PC-GPSgate that mix the signal to the
local GPS and send it to OpenCPN
via a virtualCom at 38400 baud (AIS+GPS)
