How About a Logo (Contest) for OpenCPN?

Hi everybody,

please correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I see OCPN has no logo.
I was searching all sources for one but couldn't find one, except the 'cool' icon (the one with the 'O' in ).

But while thinking about different things to put on a website I would find it even better if there were also a real logo (with the word OpenCPN).

What do you think about it?

As far as mentioned it Will (manimaul) seems to be the Designer - maybe he can design a logo?

Gunther

I really like the current logo, if you have it as a desktop icon (as opposed to the smaller browser or window title bar icon) you can see it is actually a full logo..

How to get there?
I have put it on my desktop but no matter which size I choose for the icons it stays the same - just an icon with the 'O'.

Maybe you can show me/ us a screen, please?

Hehe ...

OK, then let me try to explaine it in other words ...

Is there an "official" stroke/ lettering for OpenCPN?

I'm asking for the reason if you e.g. visit opencpn.org then there is nothing (not even the logo icon). And I do very much believe that there should also be the fully written name (in the header). For not having separate different versions but only one "official" that's why I asked.

BTW: What's the exact meaning (if there is one) for CPN?
CP = Chart Plotter
N = Navigator/ Navigation

Thanks for help.

Gunther

I have previously suggested to mani to have a big opencpn lettering on the site. Perhaps that could be in the same font as in the logo, which looks really good.

That's exactly the font from the icon (in CVS /src/bitmaps/other_svg_src/opencpn.svg).

Maybe the text in white on a (marine)blue background with some additional "~" (wave lines) or so ...?

I'm also no Designer ... , but I'm quite sure that Will will make as brilliant as he has done with the icons.
