Help with OpenCPN

Hi all, I have just installed an AIS (850 Vesper) works really well! Simple to use (even for me)
My problem is it does not talk to Maxsea on my laptop (V 10.3.2.1)
I have now got Open CPN 2.3.1, this works fine, Shows all the ships etc. But on a black screen, the only charts I can get are of the South China Sea, for some reason it will not load the Maxsea charts.
Is there a site I can get charts, I am in the Malaysia area.
Or is there a way to get it to read Maxsea?
I know I am doing something stupid (I am computer illiterate) can anyone help?
Please a simple explanation, and please write slowly as I don’t read very fast!
Many thanks, Moggie

As far as I know, MaxSea can use quite a few different chart formats. OpenCPN can read a few of these, but not all. So it boils down to ...exactly what charts do you have? What is the file structure and file extension?
No, there is no site, where you legally can download free charts for Malaysia. Prove me wrong, and make me happy.

OK, how do I make a file into which I can put US Gov ENC's? I have all the charts for the 9th and 7th CG Districts. How do I get these into onefile without the folders,or do I have to?

daj,
you don't have to do anything with the charts, just put them on your disk and configure OpenCPN to use them as described in Installing Charts | Official OpenCPN Homepage
