Re: Help with Haicom HI-408 BT gps please

The description of your Bluetooth GPS receiver says:
The HI-408BT Bluetooth GPS receiver outputs standard NMEA over Bluetooth SPP.

So we need more details:
Operating System - Windows? Version of OpenCPN just in case?
When you start the mouse, does a new COM port pop-up (--> device manager )?
Did you select this COM port with a baud rate of 4800 at the communication settings of OpenCPN (Apply/ok)?
Are you sure that no other program is using this port at the same time?

(Did you study the excellent manual of OpenCPN?)

Your version 3.2.1 is a beta release, where the documentation is not updated.
Please upgrade to 3.2.2 from this page Download OpenCPN | Official OpenCPN Homepage.
Check the builtin documentaion which is up to date.
The same documentation is also available here-> OpenCPN User Manual

At the HAICOM website http://www.haicom.com.tw/hi_408bt.aspx they mention a COM speeed of 115200. You might try this as well.

After updating to 3.2.2 of course.

Re: Help with Haicom HI-408 BT gps please

Hello,
I have the same problem.
Asus transformer T100 32G ; windows 8.1 ; OpenCPN 3.2.2 ; Haicom HI-408 BT.
I get the GPS with VisualGPS, all is right, but i can't whith OpenCPN !!!
4800 or 115200 bauds is the same thing.
Did you find the solution?

Re: Help with Haicom HI-408 BT gps please

Can you check which virtualCOM port is set up by the device?

Does this port appear in the drop down list of COM ports in OpenCPN?

(there know problems with some Bluetooth COM ports and OpenCPN. You might search in the Forum - and perhaps we will not be able to solve your problem)

Re: Help with Haicom HI-408 BT gps please

That depends on the bluetooth stack used. Formely the Microsoft bluetooth stack was very bad and people used the Toshiba stack or others. Now the Microsoft stack is better but makes trouble when different stacks are installed. The Toshiba stack always start with virtual com ports number 40 e.g.
