Re: help wiring RJ45 connector for navico radar

daletournier..
We all have different views on things.

Mine was that since I don't need the IS10 box for neither a MDB nor a NMEA 2000 compass my choice was to connect it direct to the PC. Much simpler, fewer connection points that can corrode and less gadgets that can fail.

Hi Hakan, thanks for your time and I apologize for my ignorance in advance when it comes to IT and this stuff in general.

Ok, so I assume when you say IS10 box your refering to the RI10 interface box and suggesting just bypass that completely?

Im not using NMEA or a MFD, just planning to use the radar on opencpn via my PC, therefore I can run the ethernet RJ45 from the scanner directly to th the PC and then just connect power? No need for interface box, netgear 5 port gigabit switches patches etc.....simply radar scanner to computer?

Thanks.

Sorry for key errors I mean RI10 of course!

Yes that's correct. See what's discussed here:

I have tried to rewrite the RI10 section so that it is less confusing.
Radar Interface (RI10) to Chartplotter

Re: help wiring RJ45 connector for navico radar

hello, hooked up our simrad 3g radar yesterday and pleased to report after a certain amount of struggling to understand the software the system is up and running(in the backyard)......for "fun?" wired up 2 patch cables to connect the R110 box to my computer-

the RJ45 connector on first cable was was wired
pin1-blue/white
2-blue
3-orange/white
6-orange
the second cable was wired
pin1-orange/white
2-orange
3-blue/white
6-blue
Both cables seemed to function equally well. I believe Nohal suggested this might be the case.

Thank you to everyone who responded helping me to understand this connector wiring. diama

Nice to hear. Software..
What's your system? Windows?, OCPN version? Plugin version?
The manual for radar_pi is not yet in place. Need any help?

Re: help wiring RJ45 connector for navico radar

diama
OK. But you may later on switch to radar_pi for a better utilization of the capabilities of the 3G.
When you switch to OpenCPN version 5 or the already present beta you'll need radar_pi instead. Latest release of radar_pi will be available in a couple of days.
BR24 will not run in O v5.

Re: help wiring RJ45 connector for navico radar

Haskell..
You may be able to arrange a cable. Nothing special like video signals or so. A IP-CAT5 will do I suppose if you use double wires for the power. It's not more than 2 A.
See a Navico manual for pin out. One example here.

Also read the radar plugin manual.
Good luck.

Re: help wiring RJ45 connector for navico radar

Thanks Hakan.

It seems I need the RI11 interface box, to get serial 0183 heading data to the radar for MARPA resolution.

Re: help wiring RJ45 connector for navico radar

Haskell..
- No you can connect without that. See the Navico (=Simrad/Lowrance/B&G) manual for the US connection type.
- Heading from the 3G? Do you have a N2k compass connected? You need a heading into OCPN though.
- (M)ARPA for radar plugin are produced in the plugin and has nothing to do with 3G scanner. (Read the manual for the radar plugin and forget what's in a Navico manual about ARPA)
